Removed seats, now SRS light is on!

I removed both front seats this weekend so that I could vacuum and wash the carpeting. No problems unbolting seats and removing the two electrical connections underneath.

So I vacuum, use a Bissel steam cleaner to clean up the carpeting and seats, let it dry out overnight and put the seats back in. Reconnect everything and all seems well. That is until I start the car and the SRS light refuses to go off.

I rechecked the connections and everything seems tight. I then removed the negative connection from the battery for about 10 minutes and still the light is on. Help!

you are going to have to reset your SRS light. There is a DIY for it and can be found here. Goodluck and welcome to the site. Most of the stuff that will come up in your course of modding have readily available information already and I would encourage you to search. Here is the DIY for the SRS light:

Maybe because you were smart enough to disconnect ur battery when u took ur seats out or u didnt start the car with the seats still unhooked. Most of us learn the hard way.....lol

SRS light member here too. Always taking out the passenger seat so mine just stays on all the time. Since we're on the topic anybody know if the airbags will still deploy with the light on?

Cool, thanks for the info. FWIW I did start the car with one of the seats disconnected in order to move the car. Maybe I would have been alright if I didn't do that?

Anyways I'm going to take it to the dealer and see if they'll reset it. I bought two cars in two weeks from them, so they should cut me a few breaks!

no the SRS system will not operate when the light is on. So your screwed if you get in a accident.

I'm not sure if you did this or not, but you have to disconnect the battery BEFORE you unplug the yellow connectors. From your post, it sounds like you replugged everyhting, and then you disconnected the battery.

I just installed some seats, and this really works.

It turns out I disconnected the battery in the wrong order! I removed the passenger seat and then started my car in order to move it.

Lesson learned.
