weird sensation
hi all...just got my 01 ex a few weeks ago, and whenever a let the foot of the gas there's a little jerk....same thing when i apply to the pedal...should i tighten up my throttle cable, or whatelse could it be? thank you. also, not sure if it's normal for hondas, but i noticed that whenever i let the gas go, car slows down quite a bit, rather then just rolling (in comparing to my 96 altima). don't kill me, i'm new, and never drove the honda b4

I think you need to post more info.
- What type of transmission do you have
- What conditions this happens under
- Mileage
and anything else that you think might be useful

At what speed were you going before you felt the "jerk" on the pedal? At times I feel it when around 20MPH. That's when the gears engaging. Sometimes you can help it if traffic snarls at that speed. Just lighten up on the pedal when cruising between gears. On automatics, the normal gas acc. point of gear engaging are 5, 20, 30, 45 (MPH).
cool thanks. haven't really checked the speed(s), but it happens every time i let off the gas pedal, and sometimes when i engage it. any comments on rapid slowing down, or is it normal for hondas...

I just remembered my g/f car does this too. Its a 98 honda civic ex. It seems to only do it when you get the trans caught in between gears and give it a little more gas then normal. Like for instance when slowing down then a light changes if you give it some gas(around half) it clunks into a gear. I have found that when I apply the gas a little more smothly and ease into it, it does not do it. Hope it helps! Chris
yea, my old altima does that a lot when caught between gears, but that's not the case with honda. it just does it when i simply get the foot of the gas pedal, and sometimes when i apply the gas (even when the car is in the same gear) i might take it to honda dlshit so they can take a look, but i have a feeling that they will tell me that it's normal
If you've never driven a Honda before then there are definately some transmission and throttle control quirks you will need to get used to. In my opinion, Hondas have a very unique drivetrain personality which doesn't feel right to many people. I'm not sure to what extent your problems are, but if its just the usual Hondaness, you will learn to love it.

i don't know if it's the same on honda automatics, but i used to have an automatic ford escort zx2. the computer would learn how the driver normally drives and alter the shifting on the transmission based on that. my mom drove my escort for 6 months after i bought my mustang, when i drove the escort again after that time, the transmission shifted differently from how it did when i drove it. eventually it would learn my style of driving once again. just my $0.02
