Clearing Head Lights

Hey everyone, I am going to clear my headllights in a few days and I was just wondering if I have to remove my bumper in order to clear the headlights for not? If so, I guess I will just follow the directions in the DIY section. For those that have done this before, is it easy to take off the bumper and clear the headlights? When I take the headlights apart too, what do I need to use the stick them back together. I know it is silicon something! Thanks!

ok, I am still pretty new with cars and I am nervous about doing this. The only thing that I don't have a freaken clue about is how to take off the headlights and put them back on. Well, when you pry the back off from the actual clear part of the headlight, there is some black stuff, glue or something that is used to seal them. What is up with cutting it or whatever. Second of all, when resealing the backing to the clear part of the headlight, I guess you use the silicon to seal them, and you use clips or whatever. Where are these clips exactly and do you put them on the headlight after the lamp is sealed with silicon or what. Last of all, how much silicon to I apply to the backing to bond the two parts together and do I have to let the silicon sit on the backing for a certain time before I actually apply the other half of the headlight on? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to screw up my headlights. Thanks!

Ok, I understand everything right now on how to clear my headlights. I keep hearing that I should like heat up the headlamps to get the adhesive sticking the two pieces of the headlamp together apart, is this really necessary? Lastly, how much silicon should I put around the headlamp backing in order to have a good seal, alot of a little? Thanks!

It's easy to remove the bumper and the headlights, I think the hard part was seperating the lens. In the DIY, it says it might take a little muscle, yeah right! I was dripping sweat when I seperated it. Anyway, the whole process is simple, except sperating the lens. It's well worth it, it looks dope when you're done.

Just remember not to touch the chrome on the lens cuz' its hard to get off (wear gloves if you need too). I used a blow dryer to get the sticky stuff little by little and then just heated the whole thing up and pulled it apart. Use a lotta silicone when you reseal it and just have faith, I know nothing about cars and this was actually an easy DIY once I got it started

I used a puddy knife (drywall knife) to pry the two halves apart. No blowdryer necessary. Just make sure you have something wide when you wedge it in between the two halves so you don't crack the lense.

On another note, try not to get any black silicone on the chrome piece, it is a pain to get off. I decided to try "Goo Gone" to rub it off.... MISTAKE!!! I rubbed part of the chrome finish off with the black silicone. Other than that, just go through the process of prying apart the lights slowly.

Hope it helps.

The hair dryer may not be "necessary" but it works really well. I just held it on an area for about 10 seconds and it pulled apart really easily. I started at the sharp corner of the headlight and that worked really well. It really isn't as hard as it sounds and should only take about an hour from when you take the bumper off to when you put it back on.

put it in the oven and at low temp and wait liek 6 min and take em out. careful theyre hella hot. now u have to pull the crap out of the headlamps to pull them open. yeah and makesure u dont mess up on the chrome part nothing gets the silicon off. when ur done clearing make sure u put lots of silicon to fill up any holes. then u should clamp em.
