Of course I would never do this to a new car hehehe, but I was reading a magazine where they did that to a B16A, they got an t3 turbo from a mustang svo and installed it, the turbo gave about 11 psi, with other mods it gave something like 342 hp

The turbos themselves are made from independent companies (Garrett, Turbonetics, et al) and can be used in any car, it's the supporting equipment that needs to be custom-fitted to work properly.

01civicboi- um yea knowing the piping is good- its farly easy to create- the problem lies in the manifold and downpipe-

You got to be really carefull if you are going to do it because, if they come out with a turbo for us, well, it is designed for our cars(psi, compression etc), but if you just take one from another car, you might brake yours. You got to be really carefull or whoever is going to do it.

All turbos are the same - a mustang turbo would work on a civic, an integra turbo would work on a mustang and so forth. The turbo itself is not the part that has to be designed for the car - the piping is. As far as boost pressure goes, the boost controller and blow-off valve will keep that to a safe level. But it's not as easy as getting a turbo and intercooler installed - you also have to upgrade your fuel delivery (definately) and igniton (maybe) systems to compensate for the increase of air in the cylinders.

Hope that helps, and if I am wrong, someone please correct me - I don't know everything about turbos but I'm trying to learn all I can.

So if we were to find a wrecked car with a turbo in it, we could just pop it out and have the rest all custom??

There are a few shops here in toronto where they can build custom manifolds to be used with pretty much any turbo. However the one shop I talked to said that because it wouldn't have the R&D of a mass produced turbo he wouldn't recommend any crazy amounts of boost.

01civicboirobbclark1 i am sure you could do that but make sure the turbo would actually work and is not all rusted out.

Also, if your gonna pick up a used turbo - make sure the car hasn't been sitting for ages and find something with low miles - that way you know the turbo still has some life left in it.
The thing I gotta appreciate about a turbo is that if you were to have a turbo seize or have the bearings burn out or anything, each and every part of a turbo you can buy by itself and/or upgrade.
