Help w/door lock assembly

I have an '05 Civic VP that I am installing power door locks into. Well I busted the white plastic piece that is at the top of the door lock cable and I am forced to replace the whole cable assembly. My dillema is that I can't seem to get the rod that connects to the outer door handle from the door latch assembly loose. I read the DIY listed at the top, but it didn't make much sense to me:

Next comes the other rod that connects to the door handle. This rod is sorta hard to get out. For this rod you will need to use your flat head screwdriver because your hands won't be able to pop it out. Now stick your screwdriver under the rod and using the frame as leverage, try and push the rod out. Don't try and pull it straight out with the screwdriver, you have to push the rod away from you while pulling it out, towards the door and it should pop out. It will take some muscle, but it should pop out. Don't get frustrated with this one it took me awhile to get it out, but like I said, use your strength.
I'm kind of lost on that one.

Does anyone happen to have a picture of what the top of that rod looks like pulled out of the door handle? I am assuming it is notched into the plastic piece in the handle. I don't want to pry on it too much and bust it, any help would be appreciated. Anyone have access to a factory service manual that details the replacement procedure for the door lock cable?

Thanks

Just a guess here, Is it one of the connectors that "pivots" ? If so it will be wrapped around one point and will pivot to release its connection to the other rod. Look for the open end of the connector and push it off of the shaft.

use some muscle

the "great" engineers at honda did it again. that rod just pops out. no tricks, no secrets. just use a big flathead screwdriver and wedge it between the rod and the handle. and twist, pry, should just pop out. now the lock cylinder is another headache.

Well I finally got this done, what a pain in the *** this was. I took some blind faith on the handle rod and just pryed until that sucker finally popped loose, and I didn't break anything Now, my power door locks are done and next up comes an alarm system with keyless entry and possibly power windows woo hoo!

those big clips require one big jolt of torque to be popped out. Applying pressure slowly will not pop them loose. THey literally have to be "popped" out. get a big long screwdriver, it HELPS. Get some leverage using the doors inner frame and just pop that sucker out.

haha i know cuz i changed both power door lock modules! i even assisted the guy with that part when he wrote the DIY!!

i find it easier to remove the 10mm bolt thats holds the outer door lever and then pop the rod out.
