Automatic Trans Fluid Change

Does anyone have directions for changing the trans fluid on an '02 Civic? The local shop said it had to be pumped out. Doesn't Honda use a trans filter??

No filter to change, it's internal. Just unscrew the drain bolt, clean off any metal pieces stuck to it's magnet, let fluid drain, and pour more in. Sucking out fluid with a machine is a very bad idea because not everything will get lubed right away. That causes serious damage.

Thanks, Gearbox. I still wish there was a filter to change, but I guess Honda knows what they're doing.

im lazy to run out and read my manual, but changing the tranny fluid is 30k miles correct? and would that mean flushing it or just draining and pouring in as if it were motor oil?

B&M Synthetic TrickShift Automatic Fluid

I'm gonna be getting me 4 quarts of this stuff sometime in the future so I can change the tranny fluid this spring.

I would only use honda atf and no additives! Do a drain and refill every 15k or when fluid starts turning black instead of red.

I dunno. I think that B&M stuff is pretty good stuff. Dezod is currently using it in his car (granted he's boosted) and hasn't complained about anything yet.

A lot of people have ****ed up their tranny after thei've used aftermarket oil, i would stick with Honda OEM, if something happens and you still have warranty, it will void if you have some other oil......

I use synth in all my vehicles including 2 race cars. B&M and Redline are good stuff. If your fluids meet spec, they won't void your warranty.
