Installing Mugen COld Air Intake Help!

2004 Civic LX Coupe. I just ordered a cold air intake for my car, it is a mugen cold air intake. I am wondering if any of you have installed this, and if so can you help.

I noticed under my hood there are what appears to be 2 airboxes one on the right side of the engine bay, the other between the engine and firewall, do I have to remove both of these, or just the one on the right side of the car?

any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

first off, you got ripped off. Mugen doesn't make a CAI for the non-SI civics.

second, heres a link to how to install a CAI in civics. You could have found this by searching the forums, or by clicking on DIYs in the menu.

can i see this "mugen" cold air intake? any links?

when i ordered my aem intake, it came with instructions and it was easy, its just time consuming if its your first time going at it. just make sure you reset your ecu (disconnect battery) before starting the install.

I'm afraid you got gypped on the filter too my friend. King Motorsports's listings of Mugen filters show totally different looking product:

Plus Mugen themselves put out a statement saying that genuine Mugen stuff is not typically found on Ebay.

But don't worry, an intake is an intake when it comes to our cars. Installation is fairly straightforward, looks hard only until you actually start unscrewing things. Just be sure to print out the DIY for reference. The first time I did it took me several hours, but several CAI installs after that took under an hour each. Don't worry this DIY is actually hard to screw up, you and your car will come out fine. Good luck!

Hey look at the bright side I only paid $50.00 and it is a cold air intake, I know it's not going to do much for performance, but I want to hear my motor scream when I'm accelerating. the good part is it was inexpensive, and I can put the stock airbox back in fairly easily when I need to smog it in a couple of years.

The AEM is nice, probably even adds a little performance gain, but hey it costs closer to $300.00.

I will admit, it doesn't matter whether your intake cost $20 or $200, when you hammer it, the growl -> scream is very satisfying indeed. To tell you the truth, if I'd had to pay for my own intake (mine was a Christmas present) I would have gone with just a generic short ram, with perhaps a K&N filter, or that one that gearbox had bought. There was a debate a while ago about whether or not an intake manufactured by a major brand-name company yielded better results than a generic copy. Was good reading.

I am still waiting on the cold air intake to come in, but I have also ordered a front and rear strut bar set, will I be able to run a front upper strut bar with a cold air intake or will the air intake be in the way?

HaHa... I only paid $30 for my POS Ebay Intake.
BTW.. You probably won't get the bracket that attaches to the transmission in the box, and the braces on the Intake will not line up with the mounts in the engine, so be prepared to do some modifications.

Thank God for High Heat Duct tape !

Hey Telly that's a cool lookkin Mgen intake that's not for our cars though right? I think I have seen some pictures of one similar to that on our rides, where the intake is right under the hood. Looks Cool. I guess i didn't get a mugen, but who cares I am the only one whose going to be looking under my hood anyway. In fact if family or friends looked under there they wouldnt know the water pump from the dipstick.

if you dont get the bracket let me know cuz i got one for my ebay short ram and theres no place to attach it..
as far as the upper strut bar clearing it.. all depends on what it looks like.. if its a straight bar yer screwed cuz it wont clear the pipe.. but if it goes bends foward or back you should be straight..

just be thankful that yer intake looks short enough to clear yer hood.. mine is about an inch too long so now it has 2 nice paint chips on the top.. thank god for those felt pads you put under chair legs.... (dont worry im not leaving it like that im gunna cut it this weekend)

Check out my photos and you can see the intake you ordered installed. I modified the intake though. I reinforced the mounts with fiberglass and then sprayed an undercoating material on the piping and then painted it black. If you have an auto tranny it will not fit. You will have to pull up the battery, and **** the battery mount, spin the pipe to the right and force it to fit. You will need some kind of rubber piece to go between the intake pipe and a the bottom radiator hose. It will rub if you don't. I am still debating about whether or not to keep the intake on........It is probably going to come off this weekend......Not sure I like the sound......

Well I put the new cold air intake in On the night of December 1st, discoed the battery before starting, the stock airbox came out pretty easily, 10 MM Deepwell socket, extension, and rachet, also used 1 phillips head screwdriver, and one flat tip screwdriver. I swear my car loast about 10-15 Lbs., and now the engine looks scrawny. I did hook it all up let the car idle for about 10 minutes, turned it off waited a few minutes, repeated that two more times. at idle it sounds stock, but when i hammer it it gets a nice little growl. just need a nice cat back now.

sorry it took so long to get back, yes it fit in there perfectly, no cutting, or anything. I was worried about sucking in waster durring the rain, or at the car wash, however done both at least a few times, no problems encountered as of yet.

I have to say the sound from the intake is kind of annoying. I took mine off and sold it on ebay........I had a toyota tundra with a big v-8, headers, intake and exhaust. Nothing beat the sound of the motor churing.......I miss it sometimes.......It had around 300 hp and 360 lbs of torque........

the car sounds absolutely stock until you accelerate over 3000, then you get this nice smooth growl, it gets louder as you accelerate.

honestly my car accelerates quite will, no flat spots, no noticable flat spots, I don't race, I bought this car for gas mileage, dependability, comfortable ride, and customizing. I am very happy with the car I have lowered it about 2.5 inches, put the generic cai in, added 18" chrome wheels, and I like it like that. BTW my last car only got 12 MPG, I now get 35 on average.
