why does this happen?

So I'm out cruising tonight and everytime I accelerate the car responds differently. One time it takes off nice and smooth while pulling nicely. Other times when I try and press the gas, it gets bogged and has a hard time getting the rpms up. Why is this happening? It's kinda annoying that I only get good "launches" by chance. It's an auto, so there really shouldn't be any difference from one light to the next.

ive noticed that on my car but is not that noticeable...its like the car hestates for a sec when u step on the gas
i blame the ECU. it happens on my sisters 04 auto lx as well, i have a 5speed so is not the tranny
probably ur mods might have an effect on that but i doubt it

this is really interesting since i know it happens to a lot of 7th gen civics

same thing happens to me. sometimes i can feel my car pull pretty damn hard and others are just lame launches. it pisses me of that it doesn't stay 'hot'!

shouldnt be the ECU b/c we dont have drive by wire throttle.

I havent had problems with bogging, but lagging yes... but thats during the hot summer months with AC on and in traffic.

You running a different kind of gas than you normally do? I know it sounds funny, but my car responds differently to different brands of gas. I only use Sonoco fuel in my car now because it runs the best. Well, that and I pay for it about every 3 times I fill up, one of my closest friends owns a gas station, they also race dirt track cars, this is the brand of fuel they carry cause they use their racing octane as well in their cars. I say if it's free, or partially free, I'll take it.

Yeah I always use mobil1 89 octane since my compression is a bit higher prolly. And the problem happens or doesn't happen on the same tank of gas within a few minutes of driving.

That's one thing I loved about my Ford Probe,
The Automatic Transmission kicked major Fanny.
I had it overhauled shortly after I bought it, but for the next four years.
If I whomped on the Gas, It kicked like a mo fo
and If I just pressed normal, I was off like normal.

I have a stick now in my Vic, and never experienced your problem.
