Break in period
Break in period
sup all. i've had my '04 ex coupe for two months now and currently have 2500 miles on it. does anyone know when the break in period ends? i always thought it was 3000 miles or something like that. im tired of getting owned by minivans and station wagons for staying under 70 mph all the time, lol.

Hey, when the dealer handed me the keys on the day I bought my car 10/02 they said there was no break in period, and if I were going to break it, I should do it before the warranty is up, so yeah, I've been driving the hell out of my car (52,600) miles and I've had no problems except 4 the damn breaks

Change your oil filter but leave the break in oil in the crankcase until 5,000 miles. (All you have to do is spin off the filter and barely any oil will come out, this will take out the metal that has collected in the filter.) It has a high concentration of moly to help the break in process. You could take it out, but why, it's good until 5,000 miles. At 5,000, switch to Mobil 1 0w20 full synthetic.

sorry i just saw this now... i was told that Honda breaks it in for you, breaking it in for 8000 KM, not miles. However, Im in Canada so i dunno if its the same in the US.
This is what i was told by the sales manager at the dealership where i got my car

Some say it's broken in at the factory, but the manual says first 300 miles drive slow. So whatever, I'm sure you're fine. Others have said the car isn't fully broken in until 20k miles.
