stripped bolt, need help ASAP!
ok, i was changing an exhaust for a friend of mines...
she dropped her car off at my house before work.
I woke up and started working on it, i got to the VERY last bolt/screw and i stripped it!!!
It was rusted on there really bad, i sprayed so much wd-40...still didnt work...
So i tried everything, socket wrench, monkey wrench, pliers everything, but half of it is seriously like a semicircle....
so i ran out to advanced auto parts, they had nothing to fix a stripped bolt...told me to go to pep boys, went to pep boys, discontinued selling the product...the only thing they had were to fix stripped "screws"....drill into it and stick another circular thing and pull it out, but the bolt does not have a "screw," it bolts onto the screw...while the screw is welded onto the other half of the exhaust pipe...this is where the canister section is connected to the mid-pipe...so im really not trying to cut it or drill it because the screw is welded onto the exhaust, which would give me more problems if i cut it off.
so now, im outta ideas. if i only had an air gun i wouldnt have ran into this problem, i have changed at least 5 exhausts so far, and have never stripped a bolt.
Now my question is, does anyone know of any products that somehow clamps onto a stripped bolt that would take the shape of the "new messed up bolt pattern" rather than an original 14mm bolt....
my neighbor was telling me about it this morning, but i wasnt really sure what he was saying...
but if anyone knows of any solutions please let me know asap
thanks again

Craftsman has something that will work with normal boxed-end wrenches...its looks like a nut with claws
i cant remember the name, try Sears
(hopefully the bolt didnt get welded or heated up to the exhaust during the install)

some are called easyouts sears has them but you want the kind for bolts,,,,,,,another idea that worked for me was the Metwrench (sp?) OR..... if you have a welder, just tack weld a socket onto the bolt that is the easiest way i can think of. good luck.
if all you're woried about is a welded nut on a flange
1. got to a hardware store get a nut that fits the bolt nicely
2. grind the nut off the flange
3. install the the bolt the same way you would originaly
4. take car to mechanic of friend that knows how to weld and weld the nut in place.
