Question Check Engine Light

2 Questions:

1. What is the sensor called that comes outta the top of the motor and connects into the Cold Air Intake? im just not sure exactly what it is, is it the Air Temp Sensor or....?

2. my check engine light came on the other day, I think it might be the air temp sensor, is there a way I can check the ecu to see what the problem is coming from or do i have to bring it straight to the dealer?

Thanx

3. Is there any upgrades for these sensors and has anyone personally tried em....my car is in my sig

that's the iat, intake air temp sensor

you can run a diagnostic on the sensor by hooking up a digital multimeter up to it and check the voltage it's sending back to see rather it's within parameters, if it's not you can replace it. if you have a friend that works in a mechanic shop that has a aftermarket scanner, he can probably hook it up and you can read the readings that way. how do you know it's your iat?

there is a "upgrade" for that sensor, where they add a resistor to the iat so it gives a false reading, creating a high o2 intake signal, which cause the engine to dump more fuel. but i don't recommend it, and neither does most of the guys on this site

solved

Ya, i bought an OBD II AutoScanner today, I hooked it up, it's sweet, I recomend it! It read that the problem was coming from the IAT sensor. So i messed with it some, and the scanner allows you to reset the code. I did this, and the light went off, I will find out if it totally worked when i take it for a ride later, but at least i know where the source is. I had problems with the sensor when i installed my CAI, so, I had an idea that is where it was. thanx for replying though bud

easy

was alot easier than expected....it's on the driver's side. If you begin to look under ur dash, but to the right, and follow the center console under the dash, you'll see an, an approximately 1 1/2" wide plug adapter, the scanner plugs right in there, you do not have to remove any panels or anything, i was very happy with that, thought I was going to have to remove panels etc. I will be posting pix this week of my whip
