Removing center console "?"
Removing center console "?"
i've been trying to remove the center console (the piece with the cd player and everything) for TWO days now, and it's killing me. i started by following the DIY instructions, and i got as far as taking out the screws and "starting" to push the bracket up so the center piece would "pop out." it wasn't working. i know i'm weak, but i know honda didn't make this piece THAT hard to get out. i searched and found a member who said it would be easier to reach back and pull the piece behind the bracket toward the "rear of the car." ......well, that hasn't been working, and i can't feel my fingers any more
......
so, are there any other tips to removing this? btw, it's a 2002, so i don't have all that stuff that the 2003s have to do. if you need pictures, let me know and i'll snap a few when i get a chance. thanks for the help

if you've goten the two screws out from the bottom where you would usually have an ash tray then there shouldnt be a problem, but you might want to use a screwdriver very carefully around the edge of the center console and pry. ive removed mine by starting at the top in between the vents
If you're having such a hard time, then something is wrong.
Are you sure you took out the correct two screws?
If you did, then put on a pair of leather work gloves,
put your hands in the whole palms upwards,
curl your fingers upwards behind the metal bracket that attaches to the whole console,
and push the whole blasted thing forward and it will pop out onto your lap.
Should take two minutes. Not two days.
I wish I could help you more.

thanks for the tips. yeah, that's what i had been trying to do. oh well, i figure it's just something wrong with my particular case. i emailed the dealer service center...
i don't know what that'll do, but if there's something wrong with my car, i might as well find out. anyway, thanks again

take out the 2 screws, then pry around the sides.. yea, it'll be a pain in the ***, but it'll come out.. the clips on the center part are in there hella good..
I HAD THIS PROBLEM TOO. When it says push up on the bracket, it's lying! You know the metal plate that you just unscrewed from? Feel a little towards the front of the car. That plate ends, and there's about 1/2 inch in front of that that is another plate, slightly ontop of it. You push BACK on this. I tried pushing up for like 1/2 hour, and it takes 2 seconds...you have to PULL TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE CAR!!!!!!!! The DIY should really be changed.

****.. i freakin messed a little bit of the edges up prying along the sides taking it off.. its not noticeable, unless you really look at it..
and yes, i used a towel-wrapped screwdriver...

the idiot i bought my car from messed it up (among other things; this guy was an idiot)...but its only at the top, so from the inside you can't tell. But if you look at the dash from outside, it looks terrible.
