Rep Power: 0 sidemarker install help
Hey wasup. I read the DIY on the sidemarker as well as Mex's DIY for sidemarker installation. Just one question. Would it be difficult to usea dremel to cut the hole? I was just curious. Because I'm too poor to purchase that sheet metal cutter from Radio Shack. Thanx

Rep Power: 485 you'd prolly end up denting the fender cutting the hole, unless you wanna hammer it out and repaint it before you put the actual sidemarker in..

Rep Power: 0 I always want to install side markers on my ride but I just don't want to drill holes on the fenders. Can I just put them on the mirrors instead (I heard about those M3 mirrors with LED on the back but I love my OEMs better)

Rep Power: 0 well ive cut computer cases with my dremel. I use the cutting discs's and it comes out fine. Is the sheet metal on computer cases thicker/thinner then our fenders.

Rep Power: 0 I used a dremel for mine. Use cutting discs to cut out the bulk of the area and grind the rest down to spec. Just keep a firm, steady grip and don't rush yourself. And make sure to wear eye-protection because the cutting discs WILL break. Good luck!

Rep Power: 0 got it installed. took me a while, i was trying to figure out how to make it turn on with the parking lights, and then blink when i turn. i followed the DIY. It said to tap it to the red wire on the parking light but the light is just constantly on. So later im going to buy relays and rewire it. I'll take pics when i wash the car. Only that section of the car is clean haha. thanx again

Rep Power: 0 Question: When you cut the hole to fit the side marker, the metal is exposed, right? So then, what's to stop the car from rusting starting with that point? What can you use to protect that exposed metal that you cut? Curious, because I want to get side markers with the rubber gasket to protect, but I don't know if that's enough... Any ideas?

Rep Power: 0 I would say bare minimum would be to use a few coats of primer, some touch up paint, and wax.

Rep Power: 344 My installer used a few coats of touchup paint on the exposed metal. Oh, and if you're gonna use a Dremel, pick up the diamond cutting wheel - it's GREAT. My buddy borrowed mine and used it for several more installs before having to replace it. Cuts through fender like butter.

Rep Power: 0 What about "Rust-o-leum" paint? It's supposed to be an all weather paint... Shouldn't that work? Or is that too cheesy? Primer, then Rustoleum? I was thinking about buying rustoleum for some other projects, so I thought it might be convenient to use it for this. But I dunno...
