Engine Reboring?
I don't have the money to do this right now, but the concept certainly is interesting to me, for a couple of reasons...
1. Our engine has a pretty considerable stroke, 94.4, thus you don't need to rebore it a hell of alot to get it up to say 2.0L.
2. Yeah, taking out the engine is a bitch, but reboring the cylinders isn't gonna cost you all that much at any decent machine shop, your mostly talking about the piston and costs associated with having your engine removed and reinstalled.
3. There is just something cool about increasing the displacement of this whimpy little 1.67L.
Has anyone done this? There was one previhous message about this. Someone responded that reboring will make everything thinner and more prone to warping. But are we really talking about that dramatic a rebore? Then the discussion sorta turned into the classic, what I would perfer to spend my money on line of thought. Can we please avoid that this time, and can we get some intelligent response on whether reboring would be a cool thing to do or not?

If you wanted to get up to 2.0L you would have to rebore the cylinders from 75MM to 82.15MM so, that means you'd be increasing the diameter by 1.13mm per cylinder.
As far as what this does to the cylinder walls, I have no idea, but I thought I might help you a little by showing you how much material you'd have to remove.

I would rather spend my money on an. . hehe. . Just kidding. .
I think reboring is cool. Granted, that's not that much material, but I would definately be concerned with the warping, etc.. Plus I've only heard of this being done on a little engine, I've never seen the outcome. I've only seen it done on larger engines. Anyways.. let us know if you decide to go for it. . I'd be anxious to know how it comes out. Anyone have any info on that pricing?

I would guess it would be all taking out the engine and putting it back together and the pistons. The reboring is like $30 per cylinder, or I go to Tuft U and have some Mechanical Engineer friends, we got a machine shop. It could be done free.
