ok ive been dealing with this peice of **** speed sensor issue for 6 months now and suffice it to say i'm quite irrate

ive tried two used VSS i've tried 1 new VSS. I've checked it with a multitester, the ground has ground the power is getting to the sensor. I thought it could be the ECU ran the speedometer fine before. The cluster is out of an SI and i bought it last year and it worked perfect. I have no ****ing clue what it could be. I'm at the point of afro engineering a speed sensor. Finding the pinout that goes from the ecu to the speed sensor and wiring it directly then going to the speedo directly. ANYBODY HAVE ANY FECKING IDEAS?! I'M ALL OUT AND SERIOUSLY PISSED.

you might have to. its possible something happened to the stock wires. ive had that happen before with other wiring and when i traced it, the wire had been cut from sitting against a metal corner.

well i hot wired the signal to the signal on the computer and then the signal on the speedo. nothing. I dunno how the speedo can go bad just sitting while the engine was being swapped. I replaced the computer and still nothing. Do you have an idea on how to check the speedo for brokeness. My odometer doesn't work so i'm guessing the entire cluster has to be out?

yeah if the odo is dead, theres a chance the whole cluster is fried.

i dont know how extensive your knowledge is on the clusters but you seem pretty on the ball, do you think if i just transplanted a new speedometer that it would be cool? or do you think the circuit board on the cluster itself is toast? i have an Si cluster and they are like 200 dollars man i dont want to sink that kinda money into a new cluster if all i have to do is replace the speedo

well you gotta change the whole cluster. its not easy to swap out just the speedo. theyre all on the same board. find a used one on ebay to try it out. just to see if thats the problem which i think it is.

i did some "screwing" around with a screw driver and got the speedometer out rather easily and there is a circuit board attached to the back of the speedo that has outputs for the odometer 1 and odometer 2 (trip odometer and regular odometer) and there is an output pin for the SP some other one i have no idea about. I'm going to try and find a speedo from a DX or something without a tach because they are cheaper and im going to try and swap out the circuit board BEHIND the speedo and see what happens. I wish someone knew how to test the actual cluster for electrical failure. I have a multi tester and know how to use it, i just need some kind of diagram to show me where i should check for power.

fixed it. I bought a trashed gauge cluster that some idiot pulled the needles off of and had a cracked lens and all sorts of nonsense we shall call this cluster, cluster ****, and my cluster, cluster ****ED. So i removed the speedo from cluster **** and pulled out the speedo unit by itself. Then on cluster ****ED I removed the non functioning speedometer. If you look on the back of the cluster there are four silver screws that hold the gauges to the housing. If you unscrew those with a fine phillips head screw driver, the gauges come out. So with both speedos on the floor of my bedroom, i pulled the circuit board off the speedo from cluster **** and swapped it with the circuit board from cluster ****ED. I reinstalled the speedometer in the slacker-half asses Hanes manual fashion, (installation is opposite of removal). Plugged everything back in and VOILA! i have a functioning speedometer and functioning VTEC. Took about 10 minutes.
