witch is better Short Ram or Cold Air Intake..?
i have a Weapon R.. but been lookin at other brands also but witch is better,,? cai or short ram
Re: witch is better Short Ram or Cold Air Intake..?
A cold air intake is named so because it pulls in cold air by having a longer pipe, allowing it to get air from outside the engine bay. The short ram takes in the same air but after it's been heated by the engine.
***WARNING - Meteorology lesson***
The air can hold moisture, this is how clouds form. But a certain volume of air can only hold a certain amount of moisture, this point is called saturation.....when it can't hold any more moisture. But if you heat that air up, it becomes super saturated and can hold more moisture because it's heated. Then as this super saturated cloud rises up into the upper atmosphere where the air is colder, it cools down....since it's no longer heated, it can't hold this amount of moisture anymore and it releases it, causing rain.
So anyway, the point is warm air is less dense than cold air. Per volume, the colder air is more dense with oxygen and is going to give better combustion so having a cold air intake will get denser air into your engine and give you more horsepower.....maybe 1 extra on a Civic. So because of the small gain it really don't matter but if you're building a beast of an engine, you need a cold air intake. Otherwise don't matter.

cold air's give more horse power, but mostly at higher rpms because of the longer pipes, a short ram, just rams all the air it can into your engine and gives you a wider range of gain, and sometimes more noticeable

lol when I first joined the forums I asked the same question but was told to search..this is pretty cut and paste though good info..

I had just gone to a science lecture the night before, I was feeling nerdy. It was harder for me not to comment on his spelling in the thread title.
