Alright I have a question or 2
Ok so I'm going to get a Civic, I dont know which yet, but I know I want it to be manual transmission, my problem is.. I watched a tutorial vid on how to shift and stuff, and he said if you shift around 4-7k RPMs you could blow the engine or somthing. This could be a problem for me as I'm a huge leadfoot, so is there any engine junk that could lower the chance of ruining the engine? Also whats the percent of chance that I would ruin the engine if I always shifted around 4-7k RPMs? Thanks everyone.

Umm, this is kinda dumb. A lot of people shift at 4k, you'd probably be fine shifting at 5500 once in a while too. I wouldn't shift at 7k, 'cause on the d series engines, that's at or above the rev limiter. Why in the hell would you need to shift at over 5k on a daily driver?? If you wanna go that fast, or drive like that, I don't think a civic is the answer for you. Maybe you should save up for a civic si, or a wrx, maybe even an evo?? Or, you could stop being so fast and furious when you drive.
we redline @ 7k so that isnt a problem. they install revlimiters for a reason... i just got back from a vegas trip with 3 adults and 2 kids in the car along with 4 girls luggage and mine. so you know it was a heavy load. i was doing about 80mph average but to maintain that speed i had to be in 4th gear constantly, with that also being said @ 8/0mph in 4th i was at about 5k rpms. and this was for long periods of time. it can handle a lot more than youd think. just doesnt create any power LOL
I'll flip out and kill people.

if you kill the car by not giving it enough gas when you let the clutch out, the car will be totaled and you will be ****ed. you will never be able to sell it.
seriously, don't do that! personally, I don't trust the automatic transmission, in any car. I've heard this story too many times: "i stopped at a red light and when it turned green, my car didn't move." auto =
just get a manual transmission and have someone teach you for an afternoon. after about a week, it will become "automatic" to you as to when to shift, at what rpm, etc...

manual ftw!
I use my civic as my main car, daily driver, and I drive it out on the back roads for some fun as well. I dont do anything stupid like racing through the city, or pulling the ebrake on the offramp loop.... I do take my car on the backroads and hold 40-50 though the curves, I have pulled the E brake in a parking lot... I dont do stuff to endanger other people... whatever your use of the civic is, just be responsible and dont do anything that could potentially **** some peoples lives up... I dont know why i said all that, i'm sick- give me a break.
as far as the engine goes... I drive the backroads with high RPM's for better engine responce... when I'm out there, i'll shift just before redline, or at 5k or 4.5k... the D17 holds up. Keep in mind this counts for maybe 2.3% of my total driving... Just treat the car good, dont floor it between stoplights, dont drop it in gear from a stop at 5k... revmatch when you downshift... and revmatch when you put it back in gear after coasting... ya know, just treat it good. With an automatic... blah, I dont plan on buying an auto car anytime in my future at this point in my life. You'll regret buying an auto down the line.. believe me.
