Cleaning the engine

I have alot of old oil and dirt just sitting on and around the engine and belts etc.
What is the best way to get rid of this grime?

Degreaser

Costs $2 for a spray can of the stuff and its great. Just cover your alternator and other electricals, spray the motor with degreaser then hose it off.

20 bucks says your valve cover is leaking.... unless of course youve replaced that gasket already.. this is very easy.. i love doing this job for people because i only charge about 10 bucks, so they arent out much money, and it's SO easy that i make 10 bucks on 10 minutes.. both ppl come out on top and one less oil leak to worry about.. let me know if you need instructions.. if so, shoot a pic of under your hood and pm me, i will give you full instructions including most socket sizes...

Heads up, make sure you seal your spark plug wires good. When i cleaned out the engine bay in my car i got water in there and had to buy new plugs and wires, same thing happened to two of my friends also. Its easy to stop from happening and expensive when it happens.

I would be concerned about moisture being redirected as well. That's not area I freely spray a hose into if i can help it.

Why not contact remove it? Degrease then use rags to get it off. Saves wear and tear on the cleanup down below right?

Post up instructions anyway if you can, its a common problem.
Last time I paid $40 at the mechanic to have this fixed
