Engine Light Stays On.
Engine Light Stays On.
I Have a 2000 Civic Si and the engine light stays on. Yes, I have an after market superflow Cat. It is made for my car by Jackson Racing. I checked the computer with my Actron OBDII AutoCanner and it reads that the Cat is below threshold. But , the car passed the emmisions test. That does not make sense to me. I think it is electronic, because the car has great performance. Knock on wood! Maybe a wire is loose or broke. But that is just my opinion.
I would appreciate if someone out there who has a better understanding of this situation, would help me figure this thing out.
Thanks
D Rensi

It passed emissions because it's still a catalytic converter, if it was a "superflow test pipe" it wouldn't pass. I'm not sure why you're throwing a CEL, though. I'm more of an ep3 man than Ek, lol sorry
But it doesn't sound like it would be from your cat

How many miles are on the car? Is it the light that stays on because you need routine work done to the car? (Like a reminder built in) Or is it a REAL CEL? If it's a real CEL...I dunno man.

otherwise if ur dealer is cool like mine they will run the check in the parking lot and print out what the code means and possible fixes for you

For the Ep to turn off maintenance req'd you hold the key in the second position w/o turning the engine on and hold the milage button it.
It may work for whatever car you have but I'm not sure.

To turn off the maint. req. light all you do is:
1. Take your left hand and stick it through the steering wheel
2. Push and hold the mileage rest button on the speedo gauge
3. While still holding take your right hand and put the key in the ignition and turn in to II
4. Hold it for a couple seconds and then the light should go off
If it doesn't work you are doing it wrong...the dealer showed me this and it works on any 7th gen I've done it to 3 other 7th gens

Thanks so much!
It worked!

I'm thinking or removing my cat.We don't have emissions in Louisiana. So if I disconnect the negative it will cut the engine light off?
Sorry I don't mean to steal anyones thread.

I guess alot of people just don't know about it then.
I did searches and people are talking about o2 sensor simulators.
It would be cheaper just to do the battery.
I just wonder if the light would come back on.
I want to go gut my cat right now since I heard you get around 5hp.

My friends check engine light came on because he was spraying carb cleaner in the throttle body to clean it out. I don't know why since he has an '04 with like 3000 miles on it. He was just being an idiot, anyways the light came on he disconnected the ground from the batt. and waited about 20 secs he told me and then he put it back on. He said the light went off I guess it reset the computer. But I figured if it threw a code it would still be in the computer so we hooked up my dad's OBDII code reader to it and it said everything was fine. I don't know if it will come on again or not he did this about 3 months ago and he hasn't said that it has come back on. It should come on if you gut the cat, right? If it does just do the batt. thing.

I see.Well i'm not going to gut the cat.I'm going to keep it and get a test pipe from
www.meganracing.com
It has holes for o2 sensors and I am going to disconnect the battery before I install it.
Hopefully no lights will come on then.I really hope I don't go into Safe Mode aka "Limp Mode".I just wish i knew where the first o2 sensor is.

If you buy Testpipe or eliminate cat, CEL will come off no matter what.
Couple options to fix the problem.
- You could get O2 simulator, which cost about $75-80. Plug in application.
Good and Bad reviews.
- Get Hondata Kpro and elminate CEL.
I am currently running Race header(no cat), and CEL light is on.
Doesn't do anything performance wise.
When you disconnect battery or reset ECU.
CEL will be gone for 50 miles then will come on again eventully.
You can reset ECU by taking out ECU fuse under the hood.
