Diesel Gas in Fuel Tank!! 2007 Honda Civic
Diesel Gas in Fuel Tank!! 2007 Honda Civic
Hi Everyone,
A freind put the wrong gas in the tank and now I am stuck with a hefty mechanics bill and I am looking to fix it myself now. After researching a little bit here are the options I found.
1.) Remove the back seats and pump out the gas & then look at fuel pump (Steps? Images?)
2.) Drain it from the the drainage plug at the bottom of the gas tank. (Where is this located?)
3.) Go through the whole on the side and pump it out (Tried this and it looks like something is blocking it)
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Has anyone tired to start it at all?
Hopefully not. Not sure how the pump would like diesel running through it
Not sure if the newer civics have a drain on the tank.
Your need to remove the tank, drain it, flush the lines and the injectors.
If you can't figure out how to do all this you need to take it to someone who does

Haven't done it myself, but I saw one video where dude pulled the fuel line to the fuel rail and directed it to a fuel receptacle. Then he jumped the fuel pump relay to basically make your fuel system pump the tank dry, sending all the diesel/fuel mix into said fuel receptacle.
You'd prolly have to do it a few times to get all the diesel out

How much diesel was put in the tank? Has the car been started? You should be alright once the diesel fuel is cleaned out, it won't permanently damage any of the fuel system's components. My only concern would be if it is driven with a lot of diesel in the fuel the catalytic converter might be damaged, but I think that would be pretty hard to do.
I'd just drain the tank, flush a little fuel through the line if it was run, fill with fresh gasoline, and drive it. The fuel rail may need to be removed and cleaned out too depending on how much diesel is in the system and if someone tried to start the engine. A little leftover diesel (I'd say a couple cups or less) won't be a problem if you fill the tank up, so don't worry about getting every last drop out.
Hope this helps, let us know if you have any questions

not sure for the new ones, but for 7th gen you can just turn the key to position 2 and it will continuously prime the pump. Which could be used to drain.
Re: Diesel Gas in Fuel Tank!! 2007 Honda Civic
Probably would try pulling fuel line connection at fuel rail and using the cars pump to get most of it our. Then using a hand pump in the tank for the rest.
then removing the fuel rail and dumping the diesel in there. What ever is left in the injectors should be fine, it might just take an extra crank or two to start.
also might want to remove the spark plugs and let the diesel evaporate out of the cylinders, if any is pooled in there, but that should also slip through the rings into the oil over time.

Re: Diesel Gas in Fuel Tank!! 2007 Honda Civic
The 8th gens won't constantly run the pump with the key on, it will run for about 2 seconds and shut off. I'm not aware of any modern cars that will continuously run the fuel pump when the key is on. I believe there is a regulation that requires the fuel pump to shut off with the engine in case a fuel line is damaged in an accident so the pump won't keep pumping fuel out of the tank.
