75,000 mile maintenance?

Just stumbled onto this great site, and did an archive search, but couldn't find an answer to this question...

I have an 03 Civic EX. Mileage is approaching 80k, and I do get regular oil changes and have, so far, had all the factory-recommended maintenance done.

Recently took it into the dealer to get my catalytic converter replaced (still under warranty, thank goodness) and the service guy was pushing me hard to do a 75k mile maintenance. He quickly walked me through what that entailed - changing oil & air filters, various inspections, rotating tires, etc.

It was more than $400! I declined, and went back to the manual, which seems to indicate the next major service should be at 90k miles.

My gut tells me this guy was just trying to sell me something - but I'm not sure, so my question is: does a 75k service exist for this car?

Most of the stuff he was going to do for you, you could just do yourself.. changing filters is stupidly easy. The rest is all "inspecting" which just means free money for the dealership.

That's what I thought. The only reason I went there was for the warrantied catalytic converter replacement, and I'll be heading to an independent repair shop from now on.

At least they didn't tell me I needed my rotors re-ground! (another favorite)

Re: 75,000 mile maintenance?

at 75k you should have done/changed:

automatic transmission fluid change (or manual trans fluid if u have a MT)
bleed brake (meaning bleed all 4 until u get all the bubbles out)
spark plugs

these are the three most important "to-do's" for our cars besides the regular oil changes and such.

when you hit 100k you should get done:
timing belt
power steering belt
AC compressor belt
water pump+ water pump seals
tensioner

this should cost you 400-500 and a stop total.

or u can buy it urself (its about 150-200$ the whole kit from ebay) and take it to ur mech and he should install them all for about 150 in labor.
