Gurgling Sounds from the Passenger Side??
Gurgling Sounds from the Passenger Side??
Hi everyone!!
I have a Civic 2002 EX and it just started making this watery/gurgling sound somewhere from the passenger side ... It only happens when I press on the accelerator and the engine is at 1800-2000rpm (any higher or lower, I don't hear it) ... any ideas what this is? Thanks in advance!

Re: Gurgling Sounds from the Passenger Side??
It could be your heater core (a small type of radiator behind the glovebox used to supply heat to the cabin). If your pass' side floorboard is wet then coolant is leaking from the heater core onto the floor.
Re: Gurgling Sounds from the Passenger Side??
That my friend, is air in your heater core.
"How did air get in my heater core?" you may ask. Well, in my case, it was actually exhaust in my heater core, from my leaking head gasket.
The quickest way (without disassembling anything) to get the "air" out of the core is:
a) Park the car facing uphill
b) Let the radiator cool to ambient (or at least below scalding)
c) Remove the radiator cap
d) Start the car, let it come to a steady idle
e) Turn the heater temp control **** all the way to "max hot"
f) Turn the fan speed **** to "full blast"
g) Rev the engine up to 3k or so in a controlled manner, hold it there for 3-5 sec, then let it return to idle
h) Go massage your upper radiator hose while adding Honda Type 2 50/50 antifreeze/coolant (or whatever).
i) Repeat g&h until you feel like you are done, or your coolant starts bubbling. Bubbling means you've reached saturation conditions and further purging of the system will be hard to do.
Thanks in advance to everyone else who has posted this sort of proc elsewhere on the site; good luck sir.
