Regular Maintence
Hi Guys I'm new to this forum,
I bought a new 2005 civic like about two years ago and my mileage is around 41000kms and ever since I bought the car I have only done an oil change on a consistent basis. I've always had my oil done at the Honda dealership, but now I think it's time to change the coolant, auto transmission flush, etc.. My car still runs good but I was wondering what I should have done on my car first. I think Honda has different packages when it comes to which service needs to be done, but I've looked through their package deals and read what kind of service they do for each one and thought they seem pretty unessary. Most of what they do is inspect but don't do anything. I don't want to spend $200.00 dollars for some useless inspection and have nothing be done. The problem is I don't trust anybody else besides the dealership when it comes to servicing my vehicle. What are the alternatives and what service should I be doing at the current mileage I have on my car? Any help would be appreciative.
Thanks

When I had my 30k mile service, i just checked what I wanted them to do. If you don't want them to "inspect belts, etc." just tell them that. I had them do everything but the brakes. I saw no reason to pay them to "service" my front brakes only. I don't even know if that means "replace". I checked them when i put my summer wheels on, and again last week when i put the steelies back on for the winter. You can tell by looking at the brakes if they're done. Mine have only slight grooves on the rotors and about 33-50% of the compound left on the pads. They'll be fine till spring, when I do pads an rotors myself.

When I had them do my 30k service, they didn't even recommend the transmission drain/fill. I had them do everything else on your list, except the brakes, which I do myself. I think Honda told me the trans fluid should be done at either 45k or 60k, I don't remember. Think it should be done earlier?

Most people on here agree that about 30k is ideal for both the auto and manual trannys. Just do a drain and refill not a full flush on the autos.

I have 36000 miles on my car and I have already flushed the tranny twice because A. I live in the desert considered a "harsh" climate and B. Honda's reputation for auto Tranny's is in the gutter so I want to do every bit of preventative maintanence I can.

How much does this all cost from Honda? I'd like to know thanks. How much is just a transmission drain and refill?
