Arrow Amsoil XL5w-20

Saludos de Puerto Rico !! My 2005 Civic has 2,000 miles. I also have Free "Valvoline Maxlife" oil changes for 3,000, 6,000, 9,000 and 12,000 with dealer. I was thinking about changing Filter NOT oil using my first 3,000 free oil change. Then at around 5,000 use my 6,000 oil change and apply AMSOIL XL 5w-20 and not use Valvoline. Is this a waste of Good oil??

its not a waste completely good...i use amsoil 0w-30 full synthetic....just do an engine flush before u put it in...as in put the flush in run it at 2000 rpms for 15-20 mins than empty the oil when its hot than wait than fill with amsoil...it'll run better than new with more power

Valvoline Max Life is one of the best oils on the market. First of all it is a synthetic blend, 22% synthetic by volume, one of the highest around. Secondly it has a high amount of moly 5% by weight, moly is one of the best anti ware additives. In short if they are giving you this oil, USE IT. It's great stuff, must Tribolist I know use this exact oil and speak very good of it. This oil is good for 4,000-5,000 miles, don't pay for Amsoil yet.

In fact, I think Amsoil is a very good oil, but it’s a bit of an over kill IMO, I generally go with the Valvoline Max Life every 4,000 miles on every car I have. The amount of additives and all that used in Amsoil is VERY good, but frankly you just don’t need all that, and the for synthetic oil I find Mobil 1 (even though not the best) is just fine for a normal civic. Now if go turbo or something, I might change my opinion a little, but generally anything more than Mobil 1 is a waste of money IMO. Remember the only real advantage to going synthetic is that you can go 6,000-7,500 mile between oil changes, but the oil costs more, other than that there is no MAJOR difference between the dino and synthetic oils any more.
