Re: 41 mpg~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get an average of 40mpg in city and have even gotten over 45 on several occasions. I shift around 2 grand but even when im gettin on it alot its actually hard for me to get below 35 in city. Ive got I/H/E, pulleys and royal purple tranny fluid. Doesnt do much for power but it defiently helps effieciency, lol

i'm suppose to get 32 but it is 26 due to my bad driving habits,(speeding, accelerating too much, leaving car running, etc)

If you have an 03' Hatchback then its the Si model of that year, which means its engine its different than many of those who have posted in this thread. Its engine is made more for power than efficiency. Its a Civic so of course its still great on gas but its not gonna be as good as if you bought a cheaper DX, LX, or EX. 41mpg is hard to believe but im sure its possible under the right circumtances. Its not rare for me to get over 40 but I drive an EX, and have a very gas conscious demeaner when I drive. Im not sure what to say about it being jerky at low speed or the RPM's being high in first gear. Hondas usually do rev higher than most cars... In the future when you post give more info, like whether its a manual or automatic, the model, any modifications...that sort of a thing

Re: 41 mpg~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We just picked up an 09 civic 4 door automatic. It gets 45 on the road and 32 around town, regular fuel and 10% alcohol. Would get better mileage without the alcohol. Even though we are not required by the EPA to have alcohol in the fuel in upstate NY we got it anyway. How nice of them to not give us a choice.

FYI 7th gen hatchbacks don't necessarily have to be SI. He said 5 door.

Question Re: 41 mpg~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I had 41 mpg in the city, even had 50 on the highway when the car was new (07). Recently mileage has dropped to 37 city and 41 highway, then after a minor accident the mileage has dropped to 32 mpg city. Anybody got a clue as to why? No indication of Check Engine.

So by doing a little bit of quick math; my light came on at around 410 miles which equates to 41mpg!!! correct me if i'm wrong cause i'm lovin my car right now
who cares if yur car is 2 seconds faster in the 0-60 than mine; i get 41mpg!! i'm wondering if anyone else gets high mpgs like this too?
I too get an average of 410 miles per tank of gas. But once the light comes on, it takes 12 gallons to fill it back up. I own a 2001 EX. So with that math I average 33-34 MPG. I am not sure if you have a smaller tank but I always thought that all Civics had 12 gallon tanks. Regardless, I love getting in the thirties and really manage my driving style to get that great MPG. Sounds like you do also.

Re: 41 mpg~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a link that shows the different models and how the mileage on each of the civics seem to vary even though engine size and transmissions are identical. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated... thanx!

Re: 41 mpg~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use the "Roadtrip" App for my iphone to track my fuel economy. been using since the first time i filled up my civic and every time so i have over a years worth of data points. on the highway I average 41.1 MPG, but here's the kicker. I took a trip from chicago to champaign (about 160 miles) with me, 3 passengers, and a trunk full of gear 3 weeks ago. I TRIPLE CHECKED all my numbers and found that I got 50.27 MPG!!!! with the a/c on and off intermittently!!! It was an overcast day and i was doing about 70 because there was traffic. I think I got the 50.27 because I was doing a bit of drafting. there must have been a slight tail wind too because I NEVER thought my D17 could get me more than 50 mpg!

BTW, only mod is the AEM V2 intake. and I filled all my tires to 36 psi slightly warm before I set out.

The stats: I used Shell regular when i filled up before the trip. when i refilled i had gone 184 miles and only 3.66 gallons went in till the click. (i don't top off)

Re: 41 mpg~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did you calculate your results? Doesn't make sense but then again it is possible because I can get 19-20 mpg on my Tundra while having over 1200 lbs of cargo (no drafting). And they're usually rated at 16-17 mpg.

Usually, I calculate my results after a full tank of gas (10.5 gallons), give or take.

Any reason why such variations with the exact same models... could it be tranny gear ratios, final drive ratio. My Nissan Sentra 1.6 liter automatic was rated at 39 mpg on the highway.

Mine's an 03 Ex and I usually put 91 octane and and an octane booster bottle. Driving it up in the mountains of Colorado I can get almost 45 miles per gallon.

Re: 41 mpg~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep getting a consistent 36mpg (381 miles) w/ 1.5 gallons left in the reserve.

That's with tires inflated to 35 psi and driving like a granny.

I always knew there was a reason why I always pick the same pump at the same gas station every morning on my way to work.

Adding to the topic, I do about 50/50 between the highway and city usually getting about 32mpg on average. I do have a bit of a lead foot though and really should do a basic tune-up. I'm pretty sure I'd see those numbers go up after I do that.

ur and idiot for putting anything higher than 87...ur more of an idiot for putting octane booster.

do u even know what octane is?

ofcorse this is on the basis that u dont have a specific tune for that octane to make more power and such.
