41 mpg~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup, just as the title says; I have reached my high score of 41 mpg from this week's tank of gas!!! My fuel tank is about 12 gallons and my low fuel light comes on when theres about 2 gallons of fuel left (kinda easy to figure out since when you put in gas, the pump stops at 10 gallons). So by doing a little bit of quick math; my light came on at around 410 miles which equates to 41mpg!!! correct me if i'm wrong cause i'm lovin my car right now
who cares if yur car is 2 seconds faster in the 0-60 than mine; i get 41mpg!! :giggle: i'm wondering if anyone else gets high mpgs like this too?

Al Gore FTW 10-24-2005 02:05 AM

i get 40mpg all the time, when i want to....so basically when i drive it easily. my highest overall on a road trip to/from cali was an average of 43mpg, city/highway mix, mostly highway though, obviously. you also have shorter gears though (car's an EX), so you are revving higher. 41mpg isnt bad at all for an EX.

chrisleecool 10-24-2005 02:09 AM

that's not how u calulate MPG u don't just "GUESS"
it doesn't matter when "low fuel light" comes on
to calculate the MPG
first fill up the gas full
reset 'trip' to '0'
drive untill whenever you feel like refilling
then devide the number by MILES/GALLON
simpleasthat :D

yea, that's exactly what i did; i left out the "reset trip to 0" in the post which i did do when i filled up. but yea; it kinda took me by surprise since i usually get 29mpg

^hes right. that way, you start with a full tank, and say, drive 410 miles, go fill up, and you put in 10.0 gallons to make it full, which gives you the amount of fuel used (10 gallons). take the number off your trip meter (410 miles), divide by ten, and you come up with 41mpg.

aznboysrfr 10-24-2005 02:32 AM

I'm content with my 24 mpg.

zzsupermanzz15 10-24-2005 03:49 AM

i thought our tanks were 13.2... and what kind of gas do u use? wat gas are the best? if it matters

Jrfish007 10-24-2005 07:49 AM

You guys do know the pumps vary at which point they stop right?

I mean you can go to one place fill up, empty your tank to the same exact point, go someplace else and fill up and get a gallon less. YES, pump can vary buy their shut off points buy up to a gallon, so while you put in 10 gallons, you could have burned 11 gallon, hence only giving you 37-38, which is still good. :)

To get a truly accurate measurement you should fill up and count at least 5 tanks of fuel and take the average of all 5 tanks as you current MPG, one tank is not sufficient, it actually states this right in the Ford manuals.

While we are on the subject of pumps, don’t fill your gas until it’s to the top, you will ruin your charcoal canister.

armieo 10-24-2005 08:16 AM

To get an accurate measurement take 300 measurements and average them.

That, or just fill up at the same gas station at the same pump.

zen_master 10-24-2005 08:20 AM

how did u drive? city/highway?

if city, hows the condition of ur city? low/med/high traffic?

there are many factors which decides why u got 410 miles....

zadscmc 10-24-2005 08:22 AM

JR is correct. Though my mileage is higher (I have an HCH), I can see a wide variance in mpg from one tank to another depending on when the gas pump (or the distribution technician) stops pumping.

A tank with an mpg of 63 (far higher than what I usually see) will typically be followed with a tank near 55 (much lower). I average (lately) about 58-60 mpg.

I religiously record my tank data, as I look for mileage instead of performace.

gangrel138 10-24-2005 09:33 AM

I get to do even more math. Fuel is measured in litres out here. Best tank ever was 41 mpg but I never get that out here. The urge to go over 100 legally is just too great.

BSonly 10-25-2005 11:07 AM

has anybody ran their civics until they did run out of gas yet? be safe and bring an extra 1gallon of gas to fill back up. make sure your with in 41 miles of the nearest gas station on your last gallon.

BSonly 10-25-2005 11:09 AM

i only get 32mpg in my 02 ex sedan (auto) . My daily trip to work is 60 miles one way with mixed hwy-city-boonie speeds.

ragingSPAM 10-26-2005 05:23 PM

my friends car get 4.5 mpg...heh huge ass turbo and 600 hp does give u good gas mileage

gearbox 10-26-2005 05:43 PM

i normally get 26 city 42 highway last time I checked and I have tons of mods.

turboengnr 10-26-2005 05:51 PM

i have a little under 1/2 tank left, and i am at 360 miles right now. About 200 highway and the rest in the city.

its doing pretty damn well right now.

saugashan 10-26-2005 06:12 PM

where do u keep ur RPM at, i seem to burn alot of fuel

It always seemed to me that the first half of the tank took far longer to burn than the second half... maybe because I just didn't empty the tank out all the way every time.

xkimsungminx 10-26-2005 06:17 PM

i seriously dont understand how you guys all get such good mileage, i have an 04 civic ex coupe manual and the best i've gotten is 31mpg just recently, and i just have an injen cai. -_-;; i wish i could average like 35mpg, i normally get around 29 or 30mpg though. =| i dont know why

gearbox 10-26-2005 06:38 PM

www.lubecontrol.com

turboengnr 10-26-2005 07:54 PM

i have a DC sports 4-1 stainless header, GSR intake manifold, (very) short ram intake, and a 2.5" exhaust.

My car is an 02 lx with a D17A2 motor and ecu running the stock ex cat.

When in town, i shift at about 3500-4000. And i dont hardly ever give it past 1/2 throttle.

I have driven about 80 miles to get my gas guage to move from 1/2 to 3/8. I know exactly how my gas guage works. I know i will get quite a bit more than 400 miles on this tank. I am expecting about 420.

Ed 10-26-2005 09:33 PM

my best has been 45 mpg, but i average around 38 now, mixed driving.

gearbox 10-26-2005 09:36 PM

holy crap its ED!!!!

CuRiOuSfIsH 10-26-2005 09:44 PM

I used to average about 36MPG summer, 33 winter.... lowest was 31MPG, highest was 42MPG... I had a 5 speed LX

DDragon7 10-26-2005 11:07 PM

Hmm, so far I've been getting high 7 n low 8 L/km, best so far that I got was 7.8L/km which is about 31-32mpg.

Blackpearl 10-26-2005 11:36 PM

This are my MPG:
35.2
45.3
36.7
47.3
42.6

Civic 01 LX, 5sp, 87 gas

xkimsungminx 10-27-2005 02:04 AM

hey does lubecontrol products really work?? and my car only has like 8400 miles on it, and i think someone told me there're like 2 break in periods and after the 2nd you start getting better gas mileage?? is that true?? can someone confirm?

Jrfish007 10-27-2005 08:12 AM

That's how it worked for me. around 15,000 miles my milage jumped on both the civics. You can use the FP60 fuel stuff, but wait until you have about 20k miles before using the LC20 oil treamtent.

Every car I've put the Fp60 in I've got better MPG out of. FOr instance I get almost 20 MPG out of my F150, where I normally get around 14-15. Same with my GSR, I get around 30 normally, and 40 with the fp60.

xkimsungminx 10-27-2005 01:36 PM

so should i wait till 15k to 20k miles before i use the FP60 as well?? because i used to use Plus gas at chevron before i knew it didnt do crap and that putting regular was better, and i think it's been about 3 or 4 fill ups since i've started using regular.. you think that would make a difference as well?
