yea by an oil filter wrench. there are several styles out there to choose from. Or otherwise by a pair of channel locks and twist the filter off.

I tryed 2 different types of oil filter wrenches, neither worked. using channel locks work's great, but the filter get's mangled.

if you're removing the filter who cares if it's mangled?

Have you tried the filter arench where you connect a ratchet to it, that's my favorit for the civic because you don't ned much room.

Yeah yeah I know, if the filter isn't tight it's going to either leak or fall off thus ruining my engine. Thus, people really overtighten them thinking it's the one bolt/gizmo that needs to be tight otherwise the car falls apart.

That's the number one reason for people think it's OK to really tighten the filter. If you're pounding a screwdriver through to take it off it's too damn tight.

Just follow the instructions that every manufacturer puts on the can - 3/4 a turn after the gasket makes contact.

I bought a cheap metal ratchet-type filter wrench from Wal-Mart. 20+ changes later and I've never had a problem changing the filter.

if you don't already, you need to put a little oil on the threads and lip before you screw the filter in ...

CIVIC X3 is on a distinguished road
too many ppl over tighten the oil filter i swear...just like flashlightboy said...only suppose to turn it 3/4 turn or one whole turn and no more. that's why there a gasket there to keep it seal with no leaks
