Shifting Issues/ Shift Flares SOLVED! 2003 EX - PCM reset
If any of you have shifting issues, try a full ECU/PCM reset first. (This wont fix worn out clutches)
The computer learns how to shift and sometimes glitches I suppose.
Just unplugging or taking it off power doesnt do the trick.
Cliff Notes:
I yank the tranny out and bring it to a rebuilder, got it back, toss it in, and after a couple drives, starts flaring again.
Im thinking, "This time it HAS to be the computer, its flaring the exact same way"
Im about to buy a junkyard computer.
My Mechanic said we should look for updates before changing computers.
Before trying updates, he gave me a sheet to try first.
If you have any issues like this, I advise resetting the computer. This procedure seems like the ultimate reboot. Its an easy way to avoid the trans wearing itself out prematurely due to bad data commands. Were talking about 20 years of possible shift learning on the ECU/PCM. My car had 5 owners before me, Im sure they didnt baby it like I do.
Once again, my tranny is remanufactured, so everything is new. If your trans has completely worn out clutches, it could work better, but it likely wont fix slipping issues.
I will update if the flare comes back.

Cliff Notes:
- 2-3 and 3-4 shift flares, eventual full trans fail.
- Rebuilt tranny, 2-3 shift flare appears again.
- Found out about full ECU/PCM reset,
- Shift flares disappear, tranny shifts like a brand new car now.
