Tranny Rebuilt-certification

When shopping for a re-built tranny shop i have noticed this certification
Member, Automotive Service Association (ASA) and ATRA certified Tech. Is that minimum required to be considered a good shop (above ASE certification).

What do these mean? is there one thats exclusively FOR TRANSMISSIONS.

Re: Tranny Rebuilt-certification

you wont really be able to tell based on "credentials" since even the highest rated mechanics can easily mess up a rebuild. ive seen it happen too many times and usually you wont be lucky to get a good one. just figure a rebuild could last betwen 1 month and couple yrs. so pretty much plan to sell the car after getting it done. car will never be the same.
