ok, i've been lazy so i still havent installed my shocks yet.
has anyone run into problems with this install yet? i personally dont like self tapping screws..heh...is there any way to use nuts and bolts for the bracket piece?
also, how good are ball joints? do they eventually wear out? i wouldnt want my shocks falling off one day.

Yeah, sorry about that guys. I'll try to get the pics back up soon.
i have all the parts since last year .... and i still have not install it

no time

I did it long time ago and it's still working good like the day I installed. For me this diy is definitely helpful expecially I'm living in a windly place - canada, it's just more scure every time I opened my truck. And I can use a bigger rear speaker without any contact with the stock's spring(I took it off already), thx grey!
any luck getting the pics back up, i just ordered my parts
some emailed me the pics of mounting locations, ill post them once i get back from school tonight
thanks goes to Stephon314 for these pics. Hopefully ill get time to do the install durung the weekend, if you need different pics, lemme know

All right guys this is my question I want to order this stuff today so a quick answer would be great anyways. Alright I want to remove my trunk springs completely, also I have a kaminari wing that makes my trunk extremely heavy. So I was thinking I would go with the 100#'ers but I have to questions.
1. Do you think the 100#'ers will be enough for the trunk with kaminari wing?
That wing is really heavy
2.Can I mount the shocks to the outside of the arms instead of the inside of the trunk arms?
thanks for the help guys.

you could probably mount them on the ouside of the trunk arms, just make sure that the arms fit fully extended or close to that when the trunk is all the way open, and fully compressed or close to it when the trunk is closed. thats the hardest part of the diy. I cant really help you with the force selection. I have 60 lbers on my stock trunk without a spoiler, but thats because i removed the trunk springs. give 100 a try, if they dont work you can always exchange them
hey......does anyone know how many pounds of shock good for VIS CF turnk?? I took off one spring already because my turnk will pop up so quick if i used 2 springs....i wanna get 2 shocks instead of 1 or 2 springs...

if people are replacing the springs with 40lb shocks, and your trunk works fine with only one spring, dont you think you should get two 20lb shocks?Originally Posted by jackal903

all you really need is a ruler, look at the pics for an approximate location, mount the one side of the shock to under the rear deck, then mark the location on the trunk arm that the shock extends to. Close the trunk, get in the back and measure from that point to the mounting point under the rear deck. The distance should be the closed length plus the two ball joints, if not, adjust till it does, and secure the other end of the shock to the trunk arm.Originally Posted by turboslug
just wondering but has anyone tried using a laser level to help position the shocks? boourns. the sedan trunk is smaller than the coupe trunk. i used the mounting locations that someone else (with a coupe) used and my trunk would open amazingly, but would not shut!!!!!
back to the drawing board...

pics have been down for like...a year...
Okay, today i found out 2 20lbs of shocks are still not enough for a VIS CF turnk without trunk springs. The best shocks for it are 2 30lbs. i just wasted my money again...damn!
Might have been discussed in another thread, but how about this mod for the hood? No more rod, however, would limit you using the racing prop. But our `04 is never going to need the racing prop...
Anyone here have pictures of Hood Shocks? The DYI pics are gone.
I stumbled upon this link while googling. I thought it might be neat to have...

its worth the money so u can put in bigger speakers!!!!
i juz installed mine, it opens and closes fine but leaves a little gap on the right side, now i gotta make 3 more holes for the bracket, it'll be my 12th hole juz on the right side bracket,
can anyone post up any better pics of the front mounting point beneath the speakers? i'm going to attempt this install tonight or tomorrow, but i don't wanna mess it up by guessing a location...
