Well this is the whole point of this diy ..... putting a switch for the ignition wire would be cool but that can easily be bypassed. How many thiefs would actually take the time to hot wire the car (thus bypassing your ignition switch) then actually look for a fuel cut off switch which can be placed anywhere in the car and must be switched on in order for the car to start ..... no fuel no go.

This is great, I wanna do it for my car, but I don't know where to put the switch. Also, is there a way to have it turn off, every time you turn the car off? This way you don't forget to flip it off, and you only have to turn it on when you wanna drive away... half the effort, since you only have to flip it once. I don't know much about electronics and such, so let me know if that's possible.

Uhm... first off... I think the Honda engineers would design a better anti-theft device than this 5-dollar-2-wire kill switch method. If you don't have the right key, fuel won't get to the engine...period. It's the same concept, but a much higher tech way of doing it. I could see how this could be a layer of extra protection, but don't downplay the significance of the immobilizer system.

i kinda read thru this kinda fast, and im a lil confused. if u flip the kill switch after u turn off ur car, evn if sumone jacks ur keys they wont be able to drive off in ur car. but if they try to turn the key in the ignition itz bad for the car, but i guess having messed up car is better than having no car. sounds kinda interesting tho, i guess just for kicks, kinda sumthin that u wud show off more than u wud use for practical reason, like remote engine start.

i have a 2002 lx and couldnt find the bolt to remove the rear seat...i have the 30/60 fold down seats..i dont know if that matters, please excuse my "newbie-ness". if you could help me out with a how-to for removing the seat..i would appreciate it. i am looking to put in a kill switch...

just to clarify something... your correct, when your car runs out of gas it is not good... but the only reason is because your car is picking up the sediment from the bottom of the gas tank ( causing filters and injectors to clog). when the fuel supply is shut off you dont incour such problems... so this is a safe DIY provided that you use switches rated at enough amperage to safely carry the electrical load of the fuel pump

I thought all 7th gen civics came with the immobilizer theft deterrent key. It should be a computer coded chip in the black part of your key. The ecu looks for a match with the chip, and will not enable the car to start unless the code is verified. That's why those damn keys are so expensive to get a duplicate at the dealer.

Anyone trying to steal you car would have to have access to a dealership and know your VIN number.

I really don't think you need to do this,...just my 2 cents.

Yea...but as everyone knows; a theft will do anything in their will to get what they want. And as posted in the last page, (forgot who said) a theft just hammered in a screwdriver into the ignition and jacked his car. This can be an added security...either way I already did it. haha

There is no way you would be able to start a 7th gen civic without the chip coded key, unless the thief has some special ECU to replace the stock, or some very special equipment..which IMHO is very unlikely. If you noticed, there isn't even a distributor on the engine. the spark control is from a crank sensor and the ECU. ...the screwdriver and hammer will just break the steering lock. The person who got the car jacked may have an earlier model honda without the immobilizer.

I would think twice before you start clipping wires...especially a wire to the fuel relay. There's resistance values that are calculated with computer electronics, and when you start adding switches and different gage/material wires, it DOES change the resistance going thru the circuit. The engine management system on a 7th gen is open loop like most modern cars where it looks at feedback from various sensors and adjusts accordingly. Doing something like this may throw off calculations to and from the ECU.

Kudos to all who have successfully installed this cut-off switch, but you have just lost a bit of reliability in that you added another source for future possible failure. I'm not about to add cheap wires and a switch made in china to control my fuel relay...sorry.

If they want your car, they will take it with a gun or what the last post said...they will just tow it away like they did with my buddy's RX-7.

I'm not flaming anyone. Just a thought for those thinking about installing this.

A friend of mine has done this to my car. It works great and to me is just an extra way of security. Sometimes when i hit the switch and i come back to my car, i forget to hit the switch again. I love it

Well then is it possible to just reset the ECU? I dunno alot about electric but everything seems legit. Im using wires just like the ones that came with the car...and a switch is just a switch...on and off.

i thought we were talkin the whole back seat, for the bottom yes its one 10mm bolt, but there are 3 10mm bolts holding the seat backs in place

u dont even have to take the seat off, u just have to pull it up in the front and prop it up by putting one of the front seats all the way back.... thats what i did, worked for me...
