Getting ready to polish and wax

Alright I have a few questions about this as I am getting ready to wax up my car next week. I have done a lot of searching around the internet and have read a lot of different stuff and I am just trying to figure out what all I need to do and which products to get.

I am for sure going to wax the car but I am wondering should I polish it first or clay bar it? Or both?

And the main thing I am looking for is which types of polish, wax and cleaner to get? From what I have seen, meguiars makes some of the best products. But, I am wanting to know exactly which of each product to get, because Meguiars makes more than one polish and more than one wax. I am mainly looking for a paste wax also. My car color is red if that makes a difference.

Re: Getting ready to polish and wax

after you wash it, feel the paint and see if its smooth as glass or still feels rough. if smooth, go ahead and just wax. if rough, gonna have to get a clay kit like claymagic from autozone and use that. spray one panel at a time with detailer solution and rub the clay back and forth. use small pieces in case you drop it and have to throw it away. wash and dry the panel after youre done. after the whole clay process, you can wax. i dont think polish is really needed anymore unless you have bad paint fade (red looks like pink). meguiars ultimate wax is very good, esp for a metallic paint.
