There is no such thing as a 1st gear "lock out". what is really happening is that the synchros on the collar between 1st and 2nd have trouble correcting for the difference in RPM's between those two gear = The gear can't engage.
Revmatching should do the trick, but you have to rev it up more then with any other gear.

Either just gently lean on it until it drops in, or find a way to go fast enough to keep it in 2nd. If the corner is that tight... you may find yourself coming out of it and a) spinning the wheels or b) going through 1st in such a short time you're wasting more time by shifting.

well this one track we're going to, the hardest turns are like a 140 degree turn and a 90 degree, those are the only times i would have to get into first, especially on the 140 degree one...
ill work on it, the autox isnt until the 28th

i dont know any turns that would be great using 1st gear in. personally if the turn is that sharp and there is a loss of power, i'd personally would try clutch kicking it just enough. i'd image the gear would be way too short and you'd be spinning wheels. but yeah snycros problem cured by hardcore rev matching... like they said :P
