what generation is it?

What kind of exhaust header is good?

any quick tips or areas to be aware of?

Havent kept up on what headers are available for the d17a2, but i know a lot have come off the market (e.g. kamikaze headers were greatb but good luck finding them). I should note, however, that the d17 doesnt quite respond to bolt ons very much.

How many miles on the car? If more than 120k, has the timing belt been changed? Manual or auto tranny? Learn to do maintenance yourself and save a crap ton of money. The d17 is super easy to work on.
