Greetings.
How goes it? This is my first honda and I learn how to fix things as they break. So far it's been simple. However, I've met a nut I can't get off. (yes, I know exactly how that sounds..)
The spindle nut holding in the (half?) shaft is cracked. I need to replace to the clutch, which means dropping the tranny, which means pulling out the shaft. Right? This F'n nut has busted a torque wrench, breaker bar, and laughs at impact guns (I'm convinced there just wasn't enough power behind them). It's bested 3 mechanic friends. Suggestions, oh Honda Gurus? *snoogins*
Re: Greetings.
My brother suggested that. But I have never done anything like that, and am paranoid of damaging my bearings. I don't know anyone who enjoys changing those. Lol I have the torch, but no impact gun (which is what I was told to use after heating). Pointers? I'm not opposed to it, just leary..

Heat the nut up quickly, just enough for it to expand but not enough for it to get down the axle shaft, then try to take it off. If you need to you can heat up the entire nut fairly well, then quench it in the hopes that it won't contract to much during cooling.
If that doesn't work you could try cutting down into the nut itself with a dremmel, close to the thread but not close enough to cut into them, then use a chisel to break remainder of the nut off.
The axle nut is legendary, its one of the most difficult nuts on the entire car to remove, if your trying to take it off without an impact wrench your honestly wasting your time..

Re: Greetings.
is the car jacked up while you're doing this?
i mean if the other tire is on the ground the axel wouldn't rotate at all when you try. making it easier to get as much power to turn it as possible. like breaking bolts before you jake a car up to remove the tires.
i don't even know if this will help, just trying.

Re: Greetings.
When I had to remove this on my 92 accord we had no problem with an impact gun. Alas, if all else fails.. a bigger breaker bar
Take it to the stealership and see if they can get it off for you.

Trust me, I work on aircraft for a living. Use a breaker bar, that's what they are for!
Re: Greetings.
If the axle nut is giving such a problem and will not come off then just take the knuckle off and bring the axle with it. This would be easier. A breaker bar though should have gotten it though. Axle nuts are torqued down to round 130ish so its on there good. The impact gun though will get it off no problem.

I was also told to try Kroil, a creeper oil, then impact. Has anyone used that before?
