Halo DRLs

Searched around the forum and I haven't been able to find quite what I'm looking for...

So presently I have aftermarket headlights with halos and one of the halos is burned out. I discovered these halos while buying LEDs for around my house...

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/l...accent-lights/

...which got me to thinking about replacing them. While I'm not real big on style for the sake of style. I'd be much more interested in replacing them if I can give them a purpose....

What I'm hoping to do is use my halos as DRLs. I'm not all that wire savvy so i was thinking of having the OEM DRLs installed and then cut the DRL wire and splice it to the halos. I know this isn't necessarily the cheapest way, but it's what I'd prefer.

Anyone know if this would work, is it possible to isolate the DRL wire that powers the headlights?

Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead of time!

Re: Halo DRLs

So you want just the halos on without the DRL lamps?

Do you have factory DRL's?

Yes you could just remove the DRL wires from there OE location and splice them into the halos. You could also isolate them from the DRL with diodes.

Re: Halo DRLs

Stupid phone... 03' didn't come with the option of DRLs in the States. I don't have any DRLs at all presently.

Do you happen to have a wire diagram for the headlight harness that identifies which wire is for the DRL?

Re: Halo DRLs

I have a schematic for 01-02. Not sure if it is the same but it will be a good starting point. Maybe someones else will have 03.

Let me know if you can't use the pics. I can try to scan them.

Re: Halo DRLs

just to mention, aftermarket DRL did not work except for fog lights on my car (they were mandatory in Quebec).
They wired them to my halos, and it passed inspection *because* the inspection station was dark - during the daylight, the halos are barely visible
of course, if you just want them to turn on with the key, it's good.

Re: Halo DRLs

So I decided to get smart and check out a Civic repair book from the library. Civics with DRL have a unique wire for each headlight's high beam (used for the DRL). Civics without DRL use the same wire to control both high beams. To the best of my knowledge, this means that even if I purchased the appropriate parts that I wouldn't be able to even get the stock DRLs to work, let alone try and rewire to the halos.

Unless someone knows differently perhaps?

I should also note that I'm in the states, so DRLs are not required.

If anyone wants the scans of wiring diagrams, let me know and I'll email them so they're good resolution.

Re: Halo DRLs

You can wire them like sdaidoji said, to come on when you turn the key. You can run the halo wires into your ignition. That way they will come on when you turn the key to position 2 and when the car is running.

Re: Halo DRLs

Thanks, GolNat. That's what I'm working on right now, I thought it might be easier to work with the OEM wiring is all. Since I'm now working at building my own harness, I'm toying around with some more interesting idea... have the halos work with the turning indicator as well as being DRLs.

So, I have a 2003 Civic Coupe EX. I bought aftermarket projector headlights with halos, and I want to use the car's OEM DRL's if I can, to wire the halos to so they come on when the car is running. I checked for power at the parking lights plug, but there's only power when the parking light switch is on. Is that normal?
