Hid on drls?
Hid on drls?
Hi guys i have a 05 civic and am looking to install an hid kit and was wondering if there is a way to make Daytime Running Lights Run a full power? Since hids will flicker and burn up ballasts because of the lower voltage.

dont 05 civics use the separate hi beam at reduced power for drl? so i doubt youll have any issues if you put hid in the lo beam spot.

if you want hid in the hi beam, you must disable drl (factory drl that is). you can wire up your own to work with hid, but having full bright hids in the hi beam is gonna be crazy even during the daytime. your only other option is get one of those turn signal drls that puts the signal on full bright as a drl and also works with the turn signal switch. thats what i have on my 02 and its very nice

Re: Hid on drls?
fogs may be too dim for drl, but you can try. if you have oem fogs, its just a matter of testing wires at the switch. you have to find the wire that gets hot only when the headlights are on. thats the trigger. you can cut it and attach the switch side to an alternate power source like the battery, that way the switch works all the time even without the park or headlight being on. but you may forget them on, so you could also tap the wire to the 12v socket power wire.

one or two drl fuses to pull out. or you can disable the actual drl module which is next to the hood release lever under the plastic panel.

Re: Hid on drls?
just be careful when cutting. you need to be sure the projector can mount securely to the reflector and still keep the stock adjusters. mount it from the front so most of it is in the reflector and not sticking out the back too much. and our housings have a tilt to them when installed so you have to rotate the projector about 5 degrees. you really should do it with the housings on the car to make sure the rotation is flat. sedan and coupe lights are basically the same except for some small differences, and the parking/signal bulb sockets have different connectors.

just for reference for any of you guys that dont have the list of what all the fuses are under the steering column fuse box are, here you go. might be a good idea to save this picture.

Re: Hid on drls?
its a drl module i bought from bestdrls.com (out of business). i actually took it out of the car tho since the leds i have now dont support being on in bright mode. but its a large module with alot of relays and electronics, basically wired in to the ignition and the turn signal bulbs so that when its turned on, they stay lit in bright mode and when you turn on the signal, it starts flashing while the other side remains on. the best part is it flashes in sequence with the rear signal and not opposite like other cheap versions. i have it in a box somewhere but its pretty torn up, the wiring i mean. you would prolly need new wires for alot of it, and it does require alot of cut/splice for the install.
there are similar kits online, not sure how reliable it is and if the flashing function is as good as the one i got. there are other drl options too, like the led strip units philips and hella sell if you can fit them in the bumper. if you are in canada, then most likely you already have drl and the easiest way would be to get a set of projector headlights with a separate halogen hi beam like the tycs, then the stock drl will still work at 1/2 power with the halogen bulb, and you can use the hid projector for lo beam.
