tired of bulbs, now wanting HID
so i been through about 3 pairs of aftermarket bulbs and just thinking about how much i spent on those, i was 3/4 my way up for a simple HID kit. now that i have funds, i am interested in a simple plug-and-play kit for my 03 coupe. i know there are many brands and H4 HID kits sold all over ebay and craiglist, but i would like to know which plug-and-play HID kit would be ideal when using OEM headlamps?
i see mtec, catz, xtec, etc brands all over ebay... are they all the same? with a budget of $250, what would you recommend?

catz is prolly the most reliable if you can find one, the other brands are pretty cheap and ive never heard of one lasting more than two yrs before something has to be replaced. so keep that in mind when you think of getting a kit. or for around $100-200 more, you can have a nice retrofit with oem stuff that will last as long as your car.

i was checking out that techone gb for $210 shipped and was curious to know if i will get a lot of glare using that kit on my OEM headlamps? i have the 01-03 style civic btw. i know ill get some glare (ill aim driver side lower) , but will it be worth it over halogen lights in all ways?

here are pics of my old catz kit in oem housing. even with an expensive quality kit like this there will be glare. its cause the headlight was designed for halogen bulb. but output is just like stock except brighter.

^thats not bad for OEM headlamps. 4300k im guessing? did you have your fogs on in that 2nd pic?
i was trolling around the rsx forums and members needed an "x clip" to fit hid kits in their cars. does this same problem apply for the 7thgen civic?

oh, also if you can figure out how to keep your regular HID's on when you flick your hig beams, your going to save your HIDs- they shouldnt be flicked on and off- and if you cant figure that out, you might be looking at having to buy some more expensive HID bulbs as well

^ i just wired my hi beams on their own switch and harness in the interior console. so i can flick it anytime and they get full power. but ya i wired my hid to stay on if by accident i hit the stick to hi beam (even tho hi beam doesnt work that way).
the kit pic above is hid only, no fogs. and yea be ready to replace stuff every couple years with cheap kits. catz is good, that kit i had lasted a total of 4 yrs i think before i sold it and had plenty of life left.
