Automatic Headlights?

any idea if there is a way to make our civics have automatic headlights? my last truck had this on it and i really like the idea of having it automatically switching on the headlights when it got dark enough outside. call me lazy, but it was just a nice safety feature to have. thanks in advance y'all.

no its not actually. drl and night activation are different things. drl comes on when the car is started at all times of day. best bet is find a car that comes with it stock and just use their photocell and module. its just a sensor that mounts on the dash to measure light.

so, i'll probably just have to integrate those parts inbetween the power source and the headlights themselves i take it? im guessing its basically just a light source activated switching system, right?

You USAians are funny!
My indicator is when I look at my gauges (which should be every few minutes for you) and I notice it's harder to see my speed/RPM/gas. Then I turn my lights on so I can see this stuff and it's usually around dusk. So why doesn't this way work for you?

thats all fine and dandy, but don't limit the want of auto headlights to just americans...half of my family (father's side) resides in ontario canada and a few of them have this feature on their cars as well and prefer it over manual lights.

its just a nice little safety precaution that i was trying to figure out if it could be done or not. hopefully it can be.

hmm maybe? they kinda have to light up to be able to see anything. maybe you have the older dx style gauges. the new ones are LED and have to be on to be able to see. they actually are wired to always be on when the car is on. and they have a dual dim feature so with lights off you can have them full bright, and when parking lights are on you can have a lower dimmness without adjusting it each time. they are never off unless the car is off.

this is an 03-05 lx/ex coupe cluster installed in my 02 sedan (with rewiring to factory spec). pics were taken in bright sunlight. on a cloudy day, the gauges have more of a black-out look to them and are barely visible. when it starts to get dark out, the day mode is too bright and must be dimmed. now for the pics i didnt actually turn on the car, i can just turn the parking lights on and turn the dimmer to max to get it full bright.

thats not helping man. dont criticize when someone wants to do a mod that you disagree with. this a safety AND a convenience mod that SHOULD have been offered as an option. i'm just trying to figure out how to add it on to my civic. if you dont have any ideas on how to install something like this, then please dont post

Alright. For laziness purposes, go find a car that has that feature on it, and figure out how it works. Check some other forums. Possibly rip one out of a car at a junk yard. Look at the wiring diagrams of another.

yup thats really all you can do. the funny thing is people that have this stock are trying to turn it off. try and search around, im sure its a simple photocell that just needs to be mounted somewhere that light shines and hooked to headlights. but i dont believe there is an aftermarket system like this.

gotcha. yeah, its kinda funny that most people want to turn this off, and im trying to find a way to make it work. i saw a kit online with a link to the manufacturer but it was on an older website. when i contacted then company to see if they still sold it, they said no and had no clue where to find one.

That's incorrect also. DRL(daytime running lights) come on automatically when the car is put into gear, but I get what you getting at.
