more retro ?'s: high beams, tyc housing

alright, so i'm about to do my retro. i have tyc headlights, valeo projectors, (d2s) and a bulb/ballast kit (4300k).

How have you guys done your highbeams when you do not use bi-xenon hids? I since mine is an 01, the low beam will cutout once the highbeam is turned on (cuz oem is dual filament, duh). is there any way to keep the low beam (hid) on when the high beam (halogen) is turned on, since they are split into two diff bulbs now?

also, i saw the DIY for painting the silver part of the oem headlights black. would that work the same way for that part of the TYCs? i bought the silver ones cuz they were 60 bucks cheaper and i really want it to be more of a darker color.

thanks!

yea you should have the ballast on a separate harness anyway. you just hook the harness (low voltage) trigger wire to the 12v headlight wire. this wire stays hot when both the lo and hi beam are active. so they wont turn off when you flip the hi beam on. i believe for 01-03 civic, the wire on one side is red, and on the other side red/yel. i ended up wiring my hi beam to a separate switch on its own harness to avoid any problem.

the only thing you will need to worry about is the flash to pass, meaning you pull on the switch lever and all the lights come on. if you do this by accident and let it go, its bad for the hid to just flash them like that. but there is no way to disable it besides opening the switch and cutting a circuit or something.

I just had Ocelaris make me a harness...Supposed to solve this problem. There's a thread on hidplanet.com/forums on harness making. Still piecing the next retrofit together, so I haven't tried it yet. But Ocelaris knows what he's doing.

alright alright, i am still in the process of aiming and still have to seal everything back up, but i am almost done this lengthy project (had to fit it in around classes). The beams looked decent, but they were aimed crooked. i think i straightened everything out and am going to retest this stuff tomorrow.

BTW, i ended up using a dremel to cut that shield on the weird Valeo projector. I got it almost perfect, no jagged edges or anything.

but what i really posted for... i still have that high beam problem. I can wire a lot of things, but i really dont know what im doing when it comes to relays. this is pretty much the last thing i have left to do on this install.

if you dont know, just buy a universal fog harness from www.suvlights.com it alot easier than trying to figure it out for $35.
