fun with fog lights
So i got my new osram super clear H3 bulbs for the bmw projector fogs. Took out the lenses to put em in.

but the projectors have a crappy yellow cutoff. It doesnt matter from a distance since they only shine at the ground, but still the ground light would look yellowish. yuck!

so i send infinite012 a pm to ask what i can do. He says i can bend the shield back to get rid of the yellow. So i did, and it worked! much better! thanks man!!

then the usual reinstall and picture time...

take a few moments to stare at the ground and see the rainbow

turn on the parking lights for a pic

now drop down and take a shot at the cutoff with head on ground. ooohh

lets turn on the headlights, osram silverstar H1. they cant compare with the brightness of the fogs

and take a far shot of the headlights for fun

and then drop down one more time to look at the pretty colors

well its cause of tinted windows (legal for me, nevada plates). he says he couldn't see a seatbelt on when i drove by him, i'm thinking how did you see through the tint at night, then he says oh you're wearing it. okay, well the fog lights are illegal to have on. i'm like oh i didnt know, 90% of drivers have fogs on and hes like yea not alot of people know. so i think he needed something to give me so the station doesnt get mad at him. but really i kinda agree with it, i mean alot of those fogs are really really bright and distracting. mine tho, are aimed straight at the ground, for looks only. they are about as distracting as parking lights.

yea yours arent distracting at all, my headlights are aimed high and blind everyone in front of me, one is a little bit higher than the other which makes it even more annoying and i havent been pulled over for it even when i drive behind cops. I get my brights flashed at me all the time but im just too lazy to lower them but the main reason is my driveway is on a slant and i dont know where the correct place to aim them is, gonna wait and park behind one of my friends than align them.

lol yea my headlights were just eyeball aimed. never been flashed, i think they might be too low even. if you can find a shop with that machine that does it perfect to factory spec. or even diy it by measuring.

no they are, in the city at least where you cant have them on within 300 ft of another car. i mean most cars fogs are actually really bright and aimed high, its distracting. and i dont want a ticket the second time. he said if they are yellow its fine cause its a city light. but i dont want yellow really.

i think everywhere. its a standard thing you just wouldn't think it. it doesnt matter, thats an extra 2x 55w i dont need draining my elec system. i wouldnt use em at night anyway unless weather is bad, which is still illegal lol.

tyc came like that stock. they have a ton of color. one of them was aimed way off so i had to turn it to the right all the way before the beam was straight. and it was aimed too high. they pics dont always look like this, just at a certain height. you gotta get the camera just at the right angle.
from above and below the cutoff, they look like normal headlights.

ya just ebay em. they have black or chrome. and they are super easy to open. i just bent the shield with some pliars until the yellow went away and there was a thin blue line with some rainbow. it made them look a bit whiter but you cant see any color unless im running you over haha. and they fit into oem housing with little modification. just fit it in (only went one way, but make sure its right side up), and drill a few new screw holes. and use epoxy to make it stay together from the back side. there is not enough clearance for the side with the horn, so you need to relocate that.
One more question...Don't mean to hijack your thread...I just ordered some fog lights off ebay...Where do I put the on/off switch inside the car??? I have a Ex with moon roof, cruise and electric mirror controls...Is there supposed to be a different location for the fog light switch???

its supposed to go in one of the spacers next to the 12v socket, but i moved mine where the cruise was and put the cruise behind the dash (pushed on already). Its not a perfect fit there is a small gap underneath cause the spot is a bit big tho, but id rather it be there and i can have the ashtray and lighter.

ya it should fit the spots near the socket. if you do it like me, you'll have to trim the spot a lil for the switch to fit. you'll see how when you try and put it in. and that whole piece just pops out after you remove the screw in the coin tray. then just yank the whole thing out. oh and you'll have to extend all the wires cause the harness isn't long enough to reach the coin tray area.

how can foglights be illegal to drive with. I know there are some trucks out there where you cant turn the stock foglights off unless your headlights are off.

they are technically illegal in the city within 300ft of another car. and ive noticed that most cars stock foglights and really annoying they look like aimed right in your eye and dont even give better light on the road. so its a good idea. it just punishes those that have properly aimed fogs like me. they literally look as bright as parking lights and are pointed straight at the ground for looks only.
