Sylvania SIlverstars

I am at work and don't have time to search this issue......

I have Silverstars and they are pretty sweet. I have been happy with them except for one thing. One bulb will pop after 6 months!!! I got in my car this morning and after 5 seconds, the bulb just went out. What is the deal with that? Does anyone have these headlights and have you had this same problem? Do you have any recommendations for new replacements? I don't want to spend too much money b/c it really isn't all that important to me. I would love to go with the HID set up but I don't have the funds for that pure goodness.

Let me know b/c I want to get them in tonight.

I have Silverstars as well and I love them. I know that if you touch the bulb with your finger, they will almost immediately go out when they are turned on for the first time. Other than taht I don't know about your problem.

As far as replacement bulbs, you can get some low-temp xenon bulbs off ebay for around 10 bucks shipped! Just buy from a reputable seller, and make sure the bulbs are new in a sealed box. As far as I can tell they are really bright with a slight bluish hue, so they're perferct for people not wanting to do a full HID retrofit right now, like you and me.

I was careful not to touch the bulb with my fingers. I know that much.

I was at WalMart and saw a new brand of headlights and I can't think of the brand name But I want to say that its GE. Does anyone know what I am talking about and if so, how are those?

I had silverstars before, and I thought they were great. I had the same problem. One bulb blew out in 5-6 months times. I did my research before that, and people had similar problems. I wanted to find out for myself and see how these worked out. Light output is whiter than stock.

As soon as my silverstar headlight blew out, I decided then that I would not go the silverstar route as it would cost a lot of money to replace a new bulb every 3-6 months. Not really worth it imo. Depends on how long you plan to keep your car though. If you keep your car for a long time (like I plan to do). The cost of the bulbs will add up. It will cost close to as much as an HID kit in the end.

An hid kit will put out more light and will probably last as long as your car. I would just switch back to OEM bulbs, and save up for a decent hid kit. I'm probably getting my hid kit this spring.

I am not too familiar with HID Kits....What do I look for? I would like to get something similar to the BMW/Mercedes if I do go this route. I have seen them range from $337 to $449 and that was just a quick search. Does anyone have any recommendations for a 7th gen?

I feel like an idiot asking these simple questions but I would rather ask than to waste money.

Thanks...DC

sylvania silverstar is complete garbage. even their website says they don't last more than a year. I guess thats what happens when you spray coating on it and it heats up alot more.

If you want a REAL bulb that actually puts out +50 light, go get some clear osram silverstar from europe. search on ebay. Anything with coating isn't gonna last as long or put out as much light as a clear bulb. philips vision plus was also good but they started painted a blue ring around the top to make the light whiter. same problem for that one.

The only way you can make your lights look like a bmw/Mercedes, you have to do a retro fit. Which means you need the actual projector lens from one of those cars. Retro fits are wayyyy nicer, but also are more expensive than just buying a simple plug and play hid kit.

I would not buy any HID kit over 6000K, because the higher you go, the less light output you get. I believe 4100k is pure white or is it 4300K, well its one of those. If you want the bluish hid look, go with 6000k. If your concerned just about light output, get a 4300K kit.

I know most OEM hid bulbs run at 4100K, but I've never seen an aftermarket Plug and play kit that runs at 4100K. If you want to know more about HID's, use the search function here. You can also use google as well. I don't know much about HID's but I've told you what I've learned from searching.

Another concern about HID's is glare, but do your research, and you'll see.

i had the recall and only had a bulb burn out once but that took 2 years. still doing fine so who knows. I'm gettin osram silverstar for my tyc projectors. I spent $60 (4 bulbs total) but its well worth it for lights that are brighter and last alot longer than ricer bulbs. stay away from coated bulbs, they are bad news.
