Headlight beeping sound

Hi,

I have a Civic 2001 LX. I "think" there was a beeping sound when I forgot the headlight ON, but I am not sure. Anyway, my wife forgot the lights ON and the battery was dead..... AAA came to resque!

Questions:

1-is there supposed to be a warning sound when you forget the headlights ON???

2-if yes, how do I re-enable it? I think it might have been disabled when I turned off the auto-AC for DEFROST... maybe?

3-can I build one myself?

THANKS!

Yes, a beep will sound and continue to sound until you turn them off. I don't think you disabled it though. Might check fuses. Not for sure though

1 there is a high bitched buzzing noise if you leave the lights on and your driver's side door is open.

2 if it wasn't there in the first place, then don't expect it to come back...

3 sure. but it involves relays and stuff...that i dont understand lol

I have an 01 LX and it will make a noise if you leave your lights on.

does your dome light turn on when you open your car (assuming you have the switch set to door)?

if it doesn't, its just the door jam sensor, its that small rubber black nub on your door, there about $12 cdn at your local honda dealership. Installations easy I had 2 break on me already

oh yeah, and its not a beeping noise its one solid beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Thanks, it was the door switch! I think it was oxidized or something, it seems to work now. But just in case I swapped it with the one from the read door, I don't use that door much anyway... maybe someday I will pick up a new one, I don't have time now...

Thanks again, good advice and great web site!

You should be able to clean it up somehow, I have not looked at any of the new style switches.

Thanks for letting us know what you found.

you should really replace that sensor if you have an alarm system, or anything to protect in your car. Those sensors also trigger your alarm (which you dont have if your bone stock) so it comprimises the security of your vechile.

although a theif probably wouldn't know which door. Your passenger door is going to die next, :P

Good point. I don't have a car alarm, I don't leave any valuables in the car, and I live in a farly decent place (although a few blocks away it's pretty scary!).

Thank you all! (and my Wife also says THANK YOU, she felt guilty when she forgot the lights on).
