so i bought these tails from a member on this board, and one of the tails is starting to look pretty junky
I think the clear and the tint is starting to come off, whats the best way to repair? Could i sand it down and just start it all over, or would that screw up the finish when I respray it? Heres a closeup of the damage.

on my other tail, the clear is startin to chip off. Can i just clean it well and respray it with clear?

Only way is to sand and respray. Make sure you use atleast 800+ (correct me if i'm wrong) grit wet dry sand paper. Try not to get any deep scratches or pitting. Good luck

Edit: Forgot to say once you sand it's not gonna look nearly as clear as it does now so just keep that in mind.

thats what i was figuring, so the best way is to just get a new set of tails and tint them? what about sanding and then working my way up to a polishing compound, will the light still be destorted?

When you sand them the light won't be distored but you won't be able to look into the tails cause the clear covers will have a foggy look. Just smoke them so they look black but not too dark and you should be fine.

actually for the respraying of clear coat he should scuff up the taillight clear thats already on so its not shiny with a gray scotch bright pad or 600 grit wet sand paper...than if he's using real clearcoat in a spray gun than it'll come out real nice

so lemme get this straight, if i sand down to the clear plastic, then respray the tint and clear them using clearcoat from a spray can, it shouldnt look too bad?

Depends on the type of tint your using. Some tint doesn't take clearcoat well and ends up looking like crap. The one I used already has a gloss finish to it and your not supposed to use clear coat. I found out the hard way......

i dont know if it would work or not, but you might try some clear plastic polish. I know it works great for clear plastic but dont know how it would do for this. just an idea.
