Question I'm installing el reverse glow gauges... couple of questions

I was following the DIY, but I am sure by now there is some updated information about this.

1) Whats the best tool for cutting wires to splice it into the red/black wire?
2) Has anyone wired their glow gauges with their headlights so that when they turn on their headlights the guages turn on?
3) This won't be hooked up with my dimmer switch right? All I got was a green On/Off button and a small black box that has the wires which I guess is the "brain".

Thanks

1) Splice it in with tap clips, but if you're careful a pair of small wire clippers will do ya.
2) I always just followed the red/black wire DIY

I got some clips. I'm sorta clumsy, so how would I cut the wire easier? Thanks for the reply btw

What I did (not for the faint-of-heart) was pull the wire out a bit from the bundle (had to cut some of that tape around the whole mass of wires). Then I closed my wire clippers on it ever so slightly and rotated it back and forth enough to cut through the wire jacket but not the wire inside. Did it one more time about 1/2" further down the wire, then pulled that isolated section of wire jacket off using my nails. Then I just wrapped the EL-glow + wire to that and electrical tape.

If your definition of "clumsy" is the same as mine, you're better off just doing the tap clip thing and not worrying about cutting anything (or cutting anything OFF).

TeLLy, do you have to press the on switch every time you want the glow gauges on?

So if I wire it to my red/black wire, it would turn on when I turn on my lights?

given they don't have their own separate switch and the red/black wires went to the inverter box thing-a-majig, then i say yes they will come on with your parking/headlights

Awesome, so I guess I don't have to hook up the stupid on/off switch. I need some tips on tapping the wire. How would I cut it so I can wrap the metal part of the wire around each other. This is my second time doing anything electrical with my car. The other time was with neons and someone else helped me.

Am I able to cut it without pulling the entire wire out?

Do you have a utility knife handy? If so, cut a line all the way around the wire, cut another line 1/4" down, and slice off what's in between. If not, pick up a pack of razorblades, an x-acto knife, anything. Or just get quick-splice line taps, they usually cut into the wire when you clamp them.

Alright awesome No need to get electrical tape if you get a quick-splice line tap?
