sylvania superstars

anyone know what the sylvania superstar wattage is? because i just installed some today and i couldnt find any information on the box about the wattage and the guy at schucks said they were standard 55 watts. after they've been on for a while, i get out and it smells like something is burning. i never had this problem before. could it be the bulbs?? what is the standard wattage for our cars.
