Sylvania Silverstar: How long will it last?
Hi guys!
I want ur opinion again for this one..
I just bought a pair of Sylvania 9003ST for my '02 Civic...like a week ago...
I got it for $39.99 - $11 (coupons n' stuffs) - $6 rebate...
i got it from peppy boys..
now, for those who've used these bulbs, and/or have experiences about ST, whaddya think about the lifetime of it? the website said it lasts about a year....gee, that's pretty short, hm? (or long? well...compared to stock's bulbs....my father's accord stock buld lasts like 10 years....)
as i know, Sylvania ST temperatur is 4000K, I saw several different bulbs with...shaddy brand like...A1...or something like that, cheaper than ST....whadday think about bulbs like that?
any experience about a lower cost bulb (w/ same color of ST) with same or better quality with sylvania's?
Any stories greatly appreciated... =)
edit::
for info, I'm a student...a drive my care....only about 2-3 miles back-forward from my home to campus...well, I drive to supermarket too.. at night..
edit again::
for those who live in NY, is it legal to use 4500K on normal streets?
and for those who know about BMW X5, what kind of bulb they are using?
is that a HID Xenon?

I'm running sylvania cool blues and one of them just burnt out after 2 years. The other one is still going. They are 3800K color temp and look really nice. Here's a pic.
damn..
wait2..
u guys r talking about sylvania ST and CB..
it seems like CB is "cooler" compared to ST.....seems the color is somehow "cooler"...based on that pic...
hm, lemme see my car's headlight again...hm hm hm...
that's strange CB is 3800 while ST is 4000, ST must be better...right?

indeed!
somehow, i saw the difference between the CB and ST....somehow....ST is more yellowish kinda like....it's bright as hell, but...it's not "sparkling" white..
i think...CB is "sparkling" one....u know, it's like the one in BMW's, lexus...

Cool blue is a very nice white color. It's not hyper white like PIAA and those other crazy bulbs. Just a regular white, and it's street legal. From what I've seen and heard, the silverstars are just like stock. Basically just a bit brighter.
when you go to check or buy bulb, look at the lumens, that tells you how bright they are, not the kelvin temperature, kelvin is just the color. As for how long they last, could be 2 min, could be 2 years, its just the luck of the draw
hehehe...now im using ST....can't say anything more....
i hope it will last long...
anyway, u talked about lumen, where is that information?
as u know, i think it's better to use the same spec of bulb as stock...i think it's...55/65w...or something like that..i forgot..
sylvania's st got perfectly the same spec as stock's

Lumens are not wattage. It's a measure of light output. Basically the blue coating around the bulb will make it whiter, but also comes at a cost of less light reaching the road. Cool blue is a good compromise, since they are white and still fall into the legal range of lumens.
Check sylvania's website for more info.
