Projector Bulbs
Projector Bulbs
When you buy projectors do they come with new bulbs too? I want some black TYC projectors. If they don't come with new bulbs, what would be the best bulbs to get that look like the new Maximas and Audi cars (is it HID that they have??). I love those bright purple lights. However, I do not like the white lights (looks kinda ricey to me). So what bulbs should I get that are very bright and purple looking (without going HID)..??

You're going to have to go HID. Plain and simple. There's no other way you're going to get the output and look you're going for otherwise.

I don't think there's any aftermarket bulbs that will give you a purplish look. Everything is either white or blue. You could always check eBay though. I've seen other tinted bulbs, like yellow and green. Might be able to find a purple pair. Just be prepared because they're highly illegal.
My best friend has a lowrider GMC Sonoma and he has purple bulbs. I have no idea what kind they are. A lot of people have purple and blue bulbs where I live. I'll ask him though what kind they are.

Get Mtecs they are almost simular to 4300k just a lil more blue.
True...but the bulbs my friend has are more of a hyperwhite bulb with a purplish tint...and I rode with my lowrider bud last nite that has those type of bulbs and you can see pretty good. So I think i'm just gonna get those. I think he said they are Krypton bulbs. Anyone heard of these?
Also, I found a site that has a bunch of different bulbs that are purplish looking. PIAA super plasma has an HID similar color. But I was looking at the different temperatures and wattage on some of the bulbs and the temp ranges anywhere from 4000-5000k. What is a good temperature and wattage for bulbs to put in projectors?

The newer Audi A4's use projectors with HIDs, so in order to get the color that you want, you will have to do a projector retrofit and then get some HIDs. The projectors are what give it that cool purple look, but that's only at/above the cutoff line.

I dont know how you think white is rice, and purple isnt. I bet the cops in your area got a bit different definition of rice.
besides that I think HID's are cheaper
Impulses HID kits are like 300-400 bucks with 5 year warrenty on the bulbs and 1 year on the ballast.
I replaced halogen twice a year at $30 a bulb (for silverstars) thats $120 a year, if these last the warrenty period they have paid for themselves. Plus honestly whne you get HIDs they'll take your breath away, nobody will argue that driving behind a pair is stunning. Its like driving into daylight, but better!
I would recommend you simply not buy projectors and take that money and get some H4 HID bulbs in your stock housing, I run mine in the stock housing and it looks great! though projectors are better

^but hes not willing to spend that much though?
your buddy with the truck and the blue-ish white bulbs are just bulbs not hids. you may see good with them during night since trucks have a high height. but in the rain, its horrible driving with blueish/purple headlight bulbs.. i have piaa xtreme white 4150k bulbs and its horrible in the rain.
if your on a budget and just want that blue/purple look from your headlights, go with aftermarket bulbs. expect to see **** when it rains though. it may be bright at night. i wouldnt recommend it unless you have superb eye vision

It sounds like this guy hasnt purchased projectors yet, so Im trying to steer him in the direction of light over looks.
Projectors may make your car look cooler, but wouldn't it be beter if you loaded HID's in your stock housing and not have to worry about bulbs for like 5 years instead of replacing cheap no name halogen crap bulbs with tinted glass? Should lights not be functional? Ive seen projector halogens, geez I would stay away from any bulb that lowers the already low light output you get with those things
and from what Ive heard those bulbs they ship with the projectors burn out nearly instantly. Correct me if Im wrong but is it not a b itch to replace the light bulbs on aftermarket housings?
oh and if you do end up buying projectors, get TYC and seal em tight, last thing you want is condensation blocking whatever little light your getting.
Good luck bro

tyc's actually have long lasting bulbs. when i bought my first set, they lasted from when i bought it until when i sold it (about....2 months?), so i wouldn't say that "those bulbs they ship with the projectors burn out nearly instantly."
