shifter squeaking

Hi All,

I am having an issue with my 01 civic hx. the shifter and or clutch pedal squeaks whenever I try to shift and sometimes it is hard to shift. Does anyone have any idea on what my issue could be and how to solve it?

Re: shifter squeaking

Could be the cables or connectors, at the tranny or the shifter. I would lube them up and see of that fixes it.

Re: shifter squeaking

Do you know where I could find instructions on how to open up my center console so I can do this repair as I have never torn apart my interior before and would like not to mess it up. Also where are the spot to lube up to stop the squeaking and what do I use?

Re: shifter squeaking

Most cars it just has clips that hold it in. There might be a couple of screws. Look underneath the cup holders and stuff and you might find em

Re: shifter squeaking

Once I have the center console off, what parts/areas do I lube up and what is the product for this sort of job? Would WD40 work?

Re: shifter squeaking

WD-40 is too light. I would maybe use WD-40 tp get down in the cable but I would use grease everywhere else. I would not use white lithium grease though.

Grease anything that moves!

Why would you not use white lithium grease for this sort of job? and what grease would you use instead?

Re: shifter squeaking

WLG kinda dries out and is too thin. I tried it back in the day on my dirt bikes and the stuff is crap!
