port length

i went to a shop yesterday and looked at some diamond audio m612's and the guy said that for those subs the port was 45" long......thats a helluva port and that box would take up awhole lot of room.....does this sound right?

also the guy was asking me if i would do a sealed box....... "because sealed boxes are more for sq and a ported box is better for spl" ???

sounds about right..they use a 4" port with very low tuning.. The ports in my home audio subs are 53" long..it sounds whack..but low tuning in fairly large enclosures weither requires tiny ports..(not good) or very long ports..

nope
its actually a small box. its really really neat, our shop diamond rep came by one of the last days i was working and gave us a poopload of documentation including spec boxes for diamond woofers. the port is in fact extremely long, its just folded inside the box. of course our installers added a sheet of plexi to the side of teh box so you could see the neato way the port folds

the 10" ported box spec for diamond is about the same net volume as a pre-fab sealed box for a 12". and it depends on the prefab, too. our shop has a couple sizes, one prefab sealed box is actually larger than the ported diamond box!
